Who were the iron-chinned fighters before the 50's ?

    Billy Miske was only knocked out once in 103 fights, I'm not certain how many times he was knocked down. Pretty impressive. Aside from that I agree that Jeffries and Baer had outstanding chins. Tommy Gibbons is worth mentioning, also only knocked out once, but it was at the very end of his career by Gene Tunney. He was the only fighter to take Dempsey 15 rounds, so he must have had a pretty good chin.

    These are the kind of fighters i was looking for!


    It appears to me that pre-50's, there were plenty of fighters with excellent chins but almost none of them seem to have the distinction to have never been floored or knocked out. I think this is due to fights being stopped significantly slower than in the post-50's (to make a random cut-off).

    Al Brown was quite amazing really. You'd think that with his frame - 5ft 11in and 118lbs - he'd crack like an egg, but he was never stopped in over 170 fights.
