It's amazing to me that Ali builds his career off of hype jobs like Liston and Foreman and a half blind shortest ever hw champion in Frazier and no-chinners like Norton and Coopman and then he's like the best ever. But then you got guys like Tyson who actually beat Holmes and Sphinx and RJJ who beat Hopkins and Toney and Pazienza and they underneath of him? Sorry guys but please. Only on Classic.

lol! Paz was nowhere near Frazier`s level and was never a champ at super-middle, Paz was 5`7.5 inches in height, there`s never been a super middle champ at that height and Roy Jones was shorter than Frazier and he himself wasn`t as short as Tommy Burns, Pazienza didn`t have super-middle power while Frazier was a devastating puncher at heavyweight. Hopkins hadn`t brocken the P4P rtop 10 when he fought Jones in that dull fight, Ali had a far better chin than Jones P4P and was the undisputed champ, something Jones never was.

Fair enough, but neither Warrington or Naz were great combo punchers like Mike was in his prime.

I think Ali has to be top in this list as has the best resume and over the longest duration of beating the best of the generations he competed in. Even a post prime Ali was competitive against the top level operators. Just wish we had seen Ali in his potential prime years.

Jones second as at his peak he was unbelievable almost as untouchable as I have seen, but his resume in terms of elite level fighters he beat doesn’t compare with Ali’s. Also a past prime Jones wasn’t competitive against elite level fighters for long.

Tyson at his best was excellent, but his prime years he didn’t rack the names that Jones or Ali did as his prime just didn’t last long enough.

In terms of talent or head to head encounters it might be different but they are totally subjective, but in terms of greatest Ali, has very few peers due to resume, length of his career, his amateur career, and some of the biggest moments in boxing history Ali was massively Involved in.

Head to head? You can`t include Jones in that unless he would have been fighting Ali just after he won gold in the light heavy division.

    Why so many pages?

    1. Ali/Jones (close)
    2. Mike Tyson

Better question: "Who was greater H2H at their peak, Roy Jones Jr. or Muhammad Ali ?"

I´d say we have a better comparison for Jones due to an exact weightclass, while Ali had a height, size, reach and almost power advantage over the 60s fellows.
