Who were Top Ten fighters that were best at landing a good uppercut?

Just a few off the top of my head:

* Munguia vs Robles. Check it out on YouTube. Munguia is dominating the inside and actually purposely misses a right uppercut so he can load up the left. Finishes the fight on that combo. Full torque and lands flush.

* Arguello vs Olivares. Arguello throws a right uppercut so clean with perfect technique. Olivares crumbles.

* Orlando Salido vs Juanma Lopez II. Round 8 Salido is so fluid with the uppercuts and its all in motion creating a devastating final combo to finish the fight.

* Marvin Johnson vs Saad Muhammad 2. Even though he lost, Johnson was bombing on Saad all night with that long left uppercut. Couldn't be anymore flush but Saad took everything.

If anyone is interested in analyzing a more serious candidate from boxing's early days than Corbett for the all-time top-ten uppercut list (cross-reference to Red Revolving Pepperman's recent forum entry entitled "Corbett's Uppercut"), Nat Fleischer always claimed that Jack Johnson had the best uppercut he ever saw. Of course, Fleischer claimed a lot of things about Johnson up until the day Fleischer died, but Li'l Arthur's uppercut might be worth a look by all you filmophiles. Johnson used the uppercut extensively against Burns as a good offensive weapon. He also liked to sneak the uppercut in while he was holding guys like Ketchel, Flynn, and Moran. I think Fleischer discussed Johnson's uppercut in his Black Dynamite series. My copies of all five volumes are packed somewhere, but only God knows where and I don't want to tear the house apart looking for them. But I know a description is there. I think Johnson used the uppercut extensively against Burns.

Langford had a pretty good uppercut too. See the Flynn fight film, for example.

I am not saying that these guys had better uppercuts than guys from the modern era. That would be for others to judge. I just try to enjoy the fighters I watch for what they offer against the competition they faced in their respective eras.

The Lennox KO was disgraceful . He BLATANTLY held the guys head.

 

I've often thought that Johnson's uppercut would be great to watch for MMA fighters, who are allowed to do a lot more dirty boxing like Johnson-era fighters could.

 

If my memory is correct, Arguello stopped Andy Ganigan and Roberto Elizondo with right uppercuts to the body, and the final sequence in the Mancini fight began with a devastating right uppercut to the body as well.

So? It's the best way to land an uppercut. That rule is insane and should be changed.

 

Hamed had a devastaing uppercut, in the tom Johnson, Kelley, Augie Sanchez and Daniel alecia fights amongst others.

 

Bowe was a master at throwing the uppercut
