I think if we would have seen The Flash fighting the like of our Colin Jones & Kirkland Lange we could have gauged better if Jeff had world class skills , both Colin & Kirk were there or there abouts and Colin was probably the best Welshman never to win a world title , a draw with Milton McCrory in the states was as close as he came but after that Don Curry destroyed him Bollox .

Both Laing and Jones would have been great opponents for Malcolm. He had world class skills although his career seemed to go round and round at Commonwealth level and never hit a straight road to a title fight in his prime

Commonwealth title fights involving the 3 of them against one another would have been good and would have helped the winner/winners climb up the world rankings at a time when C'wealth titles still meant something

Correct , I was watching kirk v Colin a few weeks ago , fights 1&2 brilliant stuff mate , like you say it would have been c racking to see all three fight eachother @ C/wealth level prior to World title tilts , that's the thing though mate back in the day if you were CWealth level you never got embarrassed when you stepped up as the skills level had already been confirmed .

Kirkland Laing was one hell of a talented fighter. And a boxing enigma. Good enough to beat Duran (Duran on a bad day) yet KO'd by Buck Smith. I was watching the Smith fight on the box, wondering how he could stand in front of Smith with his hands down and barely get hit :huh. Then he got hit. One KO later.... :!:

He also lost to a local fighter named Brian Janssen in the mid 80's by KO5. Laing was KD then copped on whilst down and he never got back up. A highly suspect win for Janssen. Some local commentators reckoned Laing "dogged it". What wankers :patsch

Along with many others already mentioned here, Tony Mundine, Jeff Malcolm and Baby Casius Austin all had the ability to win world titles.

is the gap between richards and sands that great? and what of ambrose palmer? he beat richards twice......old fighters are given a bum wrap by modern historians.

Will do but I'm not sure I want to see it. I've heard he isn't doing too well these days which is a real shame. Dennis Andries and Jeff Harding are in a similar boat I think. Very sad indeed
