If you read Quick Tillis' autobiography and believe his account, Beau Williford gets his name somewhere on the trophy. I can't quote the details perfectly, but theiving and lying were the smaller sins.

I know Biff Cline claimed for years to people that his father not only bet against him in the US Title Tournament when he fought Ray Elson, but said he drugged him and confessed to doing it afterwards too, so there's that for the list.

Loads of great fights happened in the era of IBC and Jim Norris and Frank Carbo.
The best tended to fight the best in the 1950s.
The IBC's monopoly produced more great fights than it prevented.

Frankie Carbo and Blinky Palermo, they both had to do with Sonny Liston and Ernie Terrell, also Muke Jacobs, Don King.

    That's right.
The restraint was primarily on would-be rival promoters.
The fighters themselves were predominantly signed up with the IBC ... and could be matched against one another, and were.
Lots of great matches occurred in the 1950s, and series' of matches.

    1. Don King.
    2. I’m not trying to paint with broad strokes here but every single promoter is a miserable lying thieving jackass who smells of cheap cologne and taco meat. See: Eddie Hearn.

I like taco meat! Not the other things, though. : - )

Wouldn't it be great if someone honest came along to somehow "run" boxing. Maybe take over a WB_ organization and start righting past wrongs? Ensure that boxing is well organized and well run. Rule that promoters can no longer sign fighters, networks, and venues to exclusive deals; everything would have to be on a fight by fight basis.

I really believe that a honestly and transparently run sport would bring in far more money for everyone than it does now with the lying, thieving, misery, and cheap cologne.
