Agreed. Taylor will face a fighter with faster hands for the first time in his career, without a speed advantage I don't see how he can win.

Kessler may very well be past his best, but his losses came against the two fastest fighters he met and Froch will be one of the slowest at the world class level. Froch is a perfect opponent for Abraham with his come forward with no defense style.

Are you predicting Dirrell to beat both Abraham and Ward, or knock out one of them?

Anybody know the system of tiebreakers they are using?

The first tiebreaker is the head to head between two tied fighters. Which is exactly why it is hard for Dirrell to qualify. If he finishes on two points, and Froch loses his next two, Froch still has Dirrell beaten on the tie breaker.

Cobbler understands the rules and has been making a lot of sense in this thread.

Taylor and Dirrell are my picks to miss out.

Dirrell might become a great fighter in time, but he is way too green for this tournament right now.

Nonsense. There are no elite boxers in this tournament. Only some good ones.

The supposed best fighter in the tournament got beaten by a "green" fighter.

We need to throw that nonsense about any one in this tournament being elite out the window. The uninformed posters who overestimated some of the fighters in this tournament should be informed now. Stylistically Dirrell has a great chane against Abraham and Ward.

Being nervous about Abrahams power will win Dirrell the fight. Unlike Froch who doesnt have one punch KO power, Abraham does.

What qualifies as elite? How many active fighters today are allowed into that category? I personally believe that the "green" guy mentioned above is easily a top 15 pound for pound fighter, with #1 in his sights as a reasonable goal. I think he's honing in on elite quickly. But, pound for pound rankings are based on merit, not talent or potential.

About Dirrell...he easily has the raw, physical talent to beat everybody in this tournament. In my opinion, he doesn't quite have the complete mental makeup to do it as of right now. Only Dirrell can beat Dirrell. Froch sure didn't beat him (one more of many reasons why nobody should place TOO much emphasis on records in boxing). And I don't see why Dirrell won't be able to pitch a shutout against Abraham IF he uses his physical gifts correctly and sticks to a safe gameplan (mental makeup). Easy to talk about, another thing for Dirrell to execute.

Against Ward...I agree with your reasoning as to why Dirrell can beat him, and why Dirrell posesses a bad style for Ward. However, I've heard through word of mouth (if you check my post history, I'm batting 1.000 on my word of mouth claims, got some pretty credible sources) that Ward breezed through Dirrell in sparring. Ward is just too damn savvy and crafty. We have all kinds of time to debate that one though.

Agreed with much of what you said here. However how much stock can we put into sparring sessions. Floyd Sr said Dirrell whooped Dawsons ass in sparring.

AGain im not disputing that Dirrel is up against it. But I wouldnt be writing him off because of a controversial loss against Froch. What I meant by elite was that none of the fighters in this tournament are Roy Jones' or Calzaghe's. They all hav easily exploited weaknesses. Dirrells may be his mentality, I think Abrahams is his style against a fighter like Dirrell.

    I voted Taylor and Froch.

Im actually beginning to like Froch now he has dropped his Calzaghe stalking, but i think Kessler will still beat him, because both looked **** in their previous fights.

Taylor and the loser of Froch v Kessler

There are a hell a lof of "ifs" involved, but it IS mathematically possible for Dirrell to advance with just 2 points. Not very likely, just mathematically possible.
