Who will be remembered as the greater fighter: Pacquiao or Marquez

Pac has the greater overall legacy, but Marquez will probably be viewed as the greater fighter head-to-head (despite Pac officially being 2-1-1).

 

This is a rather easy and simple answer.... Pac will.

 

Undoubtedly. But when comparing them head-to-head, which is fair given their history, one could view JMM as greater in that context, despite him officially being 1-1-2 (I happen to have it 2-1-1 for JMM, but that's neither here nor there).

Even with Pac having the official edge on victories, the manner in which JMM knocked Pac out cold put an exclamation on the series, making it a tough sell to say Pac was better head-to-head.

H2H strictly against eachother I have no problem ranking JMM higher than Pac (although to me that is a subject that we could go deeper into where I think the waters get a little bit murkier) But on the surface lets just say yes I can rank JMM above Pac in a h2h sense if only taking them into account.

But H2H historically, on a ranked list of fighters, ranked against their peers (good and great fighters), I still have to rank Pac higher imo, because if I have 20 fighters from 135-147.... h2h I think Pac will do better against more of the group than JMM does, by far.... which means H2H on a list of opponents I rank Pac higher.


So to me it just depends what H2H we are talking about. If we had a historical list ranking h2h... I cant place JMM above Pac in a large group, even though one on one he would place higher, because overall I don't think he ranks higher than pac H2H against the rest of the list.

But yes if talking not a wide list of fighters ranked h2h in general, but just comparing JMM and Pac h2h, I do indeed give the slight edge to Marquez.

 

No, I totally get it, and you make a good point in making the distinction between a literal H2H and a round robin variety of H2H where Pac would likely fare better against common opponents.

Not only do I think Pac would beat JMM's opposition better than JMM did it, but I don't think JMM does close to as well against Pacs opposition post MAB as Pac did.

I want to hear from a non biased fan a breakdown on how they think overall as a fighter JMM is on par with Pac, and that Pac wouldn't do better against JMM opponents than JMM would against Pacs.

Keep in mind right off the bat their actual common opponents, MAB and Bradley, which puts JMM in the hole right out of the gate as Pac outshined JMM by far against both.

JMM vs Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, Morales?

I have much more confidence in Pac against JMM's opp than the other way around.
