Who will be the 1st Mainstream boxer to crossover in to UFC near his prime?

actually UFC ratings have gone down cuz their cash cow liddell has lost 2 in a row..they are still big but they peaked and are going down

 

Maybe Cintron if he gets beat by Williams and then maybe Margo again and decides to call it quits.

 

Nobody that mainstream will do it until UFC starts paying their fighters better. Name boxers make WAY more money than name mixed martial artists. If someone's already making big money, then there's no reason to take the risk that you might not be good at grappling. I could see someone with somewhat of a name but who is dodged a lot doing it if they have the right background (i.e., someone like Josh Clottey, who can't seem to get paid if his life depended on it, but who has some background in kickboxing or wrestling as well).

 

I like UFC but honestly, I'm getting kinda bored of it. Most of the UFC fights seems to be the same. It just doesnt have the kind of drama boxing does.
The commentators get excited about even a single punch or kick throw.

As for mainstream boxer crossing over, whenever UFC pays its fighters more $$$ than boxing, it will start to happen.

Yes, in a way. As in Dana White has, although more successful than boxing promoters of late, screwed a few things up. He wen through a period of a few months where there was a main event every two weeks nearly. This on paper sounds a great idea, but the general public get bored. You have go to keep them on their toes. And with this over exposure the people have seen how much bad & mediocre fighters their are in the UFC with only a few very talented individuals.

Trust me, when the TUF euphoria dies down, UFC will only decline, its started already.

There are very few mainstream boxers. The few that are mainstream make a shitload more money than UFC fighters. As a result, your proposed scenario isn't going to happen anytime soon.

 

It wont happen.The money simply isn't there.Once the money turns up the athletes will follow but not before.

 

Since the UFC and the other mixed martial arts have come on the scene the sport that seems to be affected most is pro wrestling. Their numbers are dropping like a rock. Boxing hasn't really been affected that much.

Maybe the next big name to move from a sport into MMA or UFC is going to be one of the big named wrestlers. I couldn't tell you who because I never watch wrestling.

 

Thats not because of MMA or the UFC though.Thats because there format is crap and they`ve lost quality mainstays one after the other. WWE has just grown stale. The UFC is also in a similar scenario as they have reached saturation now.There is very little competition to challenge them and the events are regular like clockwork.

 

this is very true. I am huge into MMA now, and even I'm getting sick of the PPVs every ****ing month. It becomes like another monthly bill at $50 a pop :deal

 

Could be. I honestly don't know enough about wrestling or MMA/UFC.

I do follow media numbers closely because of my business and I read recently that wrestling is going through very, very tough times. Their numbers have fallen off dramatically. The MMA/UFC was sort of hot for a while but they're flattening as well.

I think your point about staleness of both is valid. Neither seems to have much depth or much in the way of newcomers hitting the scene. That's one area that boxing is vastly superior. There's always fresh blood, i.e. new content in media terms.

In media fresh content is the backbone of success and growth.

 

I've been watching UFC back from Royce Gracie days. Its beginning to get a little boring now, I still watch it but not nearly as much. Agreed they've been putting out too many UFC ppvs lately.
