Who will become a bona fide beltholder earlier - Povetkin or Diaconu?

No, he would be a paper champ. Maybe you should change the title of the thread. You're leaving too much to interpretation.

Huh? Beating Johnson would make him a paper champ? :patsch

Diaconu has no stamina at all, gassing out after just 7-8 rounds...his power is average and he got a low workrate. He can't get a win vs. Johnson other than a homer (though, the fight vs. Henry was judged fairly - so I don't see him winning anywhere).

That's right. A paper champ is someone who gets their title without beating the champion. Ergo, Dianconu would be a paper champ if he picked up a vacant strap

I agree...it's not easy at all, is it?

But he might get a shot at another belt...with everyone retiring...

Povetkin will not find it easy against Wlad...if he fails, he'll also try for another belt, unles Wlad unifies them all...in which case, he's screwed.

Well, in that case, if Diaconu would beat Johnson, Hopkins, Tarver (after Tarver loses to Dawson) and Calzaghe, he would still be a paper champ because Dawson ducked him!

    Nice logic, there, Sherlock!

At least, Povetkin (if he wins his tune-up in July/August) will have a shot at the legitimate HW champ whereas Diaconu would just fight a beltholder at LHW.

So Povetkin has the better shot in here...

No need to get pissy. I simply gave you a definition of a paper champ. Furthermore, Diaconu won't beat Johnson. Even if he does, Hopkins is retired, Tarver would be coming off a loss, and Calzaghe is only fighting one more time.(it sure as hell won't be against Diaconu.) If you want to be a bona fide champ, you have to beat a champ.

Belthholder will do, for the sake of this argument.

Harder to beat Wlad if your Povetkin than Dawson or Johnson if you're Diaconu, just about, no?

I other words, Diaconu can never be a Champ, unless DAWSON agrees to fight him. :rofl

I thought we are talking about becoming THE champ and not a bona fide beltholder, huh???

I said "World Champ"...I didn't say: "THE World Champ" or "The Champion".
