Who will BJ fight now that Fitch is out?

Condit is the obvious choice. I guess its possible they think outside the box and draft in somebody from Strikeforce or the Middleweight division. I would love to see Penn vs Akiyama.

Condit is a name that is going around the internet and it makes sense...

 

Tiago Alves Bj is my boy but if he wants a chance to get a title shot he has to beat the big boys @ 170.

 

Smart money says Condit, Alves is also a distinct possibility.

 

It'll never happen but I'd chop off my left bollock to see Diaz come over from SF to fight him.

This for me is the worst possible match up for Penn out of them all , Alves is a power house at the weight , his stand up is so far advanced for BJ that his leg kicks alone could end the fight early .

Alves is a very busy fighter who pushes the pace and is very very strong , Penn is one paced and has shown if you take that pace to the next level he cannot fight at his very best unless he is in control of the pace of the fight , see Edgar 1 & 2 and round 3 Penn Fitch .

If BJ does not take Alves down early and finish there with a submission , by the nature of the fight i see him getting outclassed and outworked on the feet and possibly TKO'd , or on the end of a very one sided kick boxing match in a losing decision .

 

I agree with you Winfella, and that's the match Id like to see most for them reasons. Im not tyna downplay his striking, but BJ has been facing mainly grapples like Fitch, Joe Daddy, Sherk Hughes even the guys who would be considered good strikers like Kenny and GSP both chose to mainly grapple with Penn. Id like to see him test his skills against a pure strikers like Thiago.

BJ looked the best we've ever seen in rounds 1 & 2 of the Fitch fight, a fight with Alves would be much more revealing of where he's at mentally and whether he's ready to really compete with the best of the 170s.

 

I worry that Alves would bulk up to ridiculous proportions against BJ.

 

I like the Condit idea for sure, he is on a 3 fight win streak and his only loss in 5 yrs is a SD to Kampmann. If he beats BJ he would definatly earn a title shot and that's a guy that GSP hasn't already beat.
