Now that Amir Khan has parted company with his trainer Oliver Harrison, there is talk of him teaming up with Buddy McGirt, Freddie Roach or Roger Mayweather.

I think its probably the right step for Khan to now go with an established trainer in an attempt to raise his game and mix with the big boys of the division. I'm interested though in who people think would do the most for Amir, whether that be one of the above or anyone else for that matter.

To get the ball rolling, I think Roger Mayweather may add some defence to Khan's growing arsenal which could really be the making of him! I dont think Freddy Roach or McGirt could add all that much to Khan, that is they would both improve his strengths but I couldnt see either of them greatly improving his weaknesses, which is for me is (as mentioned) his defence.

On the same token I dont think Jack Loew would be the best for Amir. A couple of years ago I would have thrown in Dan Birmingham as someone who may offer him some good defensive acumen, but having seen Lacy a couple of times, I'm not too sure now!

    For me its Mayweather...

    Thoughts?

Given Loew's recent comments about Enzo Calzaghe and Amir's friendship with Joe, I'm guessing we can now rule him out:patsch

Roach or Roger Mayweather will be both fine.

    So either of the two.

There is nothing wrong with the relationship between Khan and Calzaghe, that is what I was saying, its the relationship between Loew and Enzo Calzaghe!

In the initial post I suggested Jack Loew as a potential trainer, but Loew has just had a go at Enzo Calzaghe so I would presume that Khan wouldnt want to be trained by him now...

You think Enzo will train him, or you think Enzo would do the most for him?

Going back to my main point, I think Khan needs to work on his defence primarily. Maybe also on his work on the inside. I dont think Enzo is a specialist in either of those fields.

I think Mayweather would serve both purposes. Roach would help with his inside work, but I really think Mayweather would be the best option.

    haha enzo calzaghe......

he cant train ****. KHans with buddy mgirt, i think roger mayweather or floyd mayweather snr would help him the most.. all freddy roach does is think about game plans.. he cant teach some1 how to fight can he. Floyd snr teaches you.. Enzo calzaghe teaches you how to be dumb.. enzo calzaghes the most over rated trainer out there

For Khan's future's sake, Amir should never EVER think about hiring McGirt. I'm sorry, but he's just... bad IMO for any young and still learning prospect...

Roger or Floyd Sr. is an excellent choice. Roach is not teaching any tight and masterful defensive techniques and because of Khan's chin the Roach-style is just bad for him. Steward (hopefully he's not considering him) and the jab-based sh*t would be just as bad as well...

I'm still not convinced how good is Enzo Calzaghe, so if I were Khan, I'd chose Floyd Sr. Not only the trainer is good but the sparring partners as well: Guzman, DLH etc... and it's always good the be close to the Golden Boy and his company.

If not Floyd, how about Jack Mosley?

What do you think Steward has over Mayweather (other than his CV obviously!)?

well its mainly his CV to be honest hes proven it before i cant really remember him not doing good work other then with jermaine taylor, i just think that khan needs someone who will not let him be the boss, someone to get him into line more often then not and i believe manny is very good at that, khan can be great but i fear he needs to lose his own hype and manny may well do that

Hadnt considered the sparring partners as a factor in making my decision. Floyd Sr does have a cracking stable. But on the same point though, with Roger you've got Amir sparring with PBF? Wouldnt get any better for him than that!
