When both Joshua and Wilder retire, who will go down as the better fighter?

If boxing really is a business there is no way they fail to make AJ Wilder

    So we can find out

If done correctly they could make it a $100m bout. One or both of them will duck though.

I don't know but if a few years ago somebody would have told you Joshua loses twice to usyk and Wilder basically gets schooled on x3 by a post 30 stone Fury most of you would have laughed.. funny old game

AJ imo. He may have lost his last two but at least he wasn't sparked out twice in a row.

Joshua is a better boxer, but Wilder smokes him.

If they fight each other, Wilder, because I think he wins....

If they retired right now, it'd be AJ, as he has the best win (Klitschko).

Neither fighter is much of anything historically. Neither has won the legitimate heavyweight championship. Both were completely unimpressive in their most recent bouts and these were career defining bouts.

Within the next ten years only hardcore boxing fans will know of either fighter. Neither will ever be mentioned in the same breath as the historic ATG’s who won the legitimate heavyweight championship and exhibited ATG characteristics.

Joshua. He actually won a few big fights against decent competition

This. If they both retired right now, public opinion would sway on the side of Joshua because most would argue he has the better resume.

But if they stepped in the ring, Wilder would brutalise AJ, and not many people would still argue AJ had the better legacy than Wilder after seeing him out cold on the canvas.

AJ has the better resume, but both will be more remebered now for their defining losses than the rest - although Wilder doesnt have something like the Klitschko win to fall back on.

I think this will actually be a big obstacle to a fight being made between them.

Another factor for Joshua is how Usyk does against Fury if/when that fight gets made. If Usyk was to somehow school Fury and get undisputed, then AJs stock rises even in the defeats by Usyk. On the flipside, if Usyk is beaten soundly, then it favours Wilder

If neither were to ever fight again, AJ would be ahead of Wilder imo. AJ has the better resume and Wilder would have been knocked out in his final two fights, while AJ just dropped one unanimous and one split (although it should also have been unanimous) decision. Hopefully they fight each other though, and we don’t have to simply speculate. I was originally favoring AJ over Wilder, but I’m starting to think that AJ won’t mentally recover from this, which could be enough to tip the scales in Wilder’s favor.
