my mate was satying in the same hotel as clev ,and said there looking at an april fight then a fight july.remeber the german who holds the WBO is in jail and with warrens connection to the WBO i would anticpate he would proberly get a WBO shot over the summer ...
The key for me is to get him in with a different mix of styles rather than facing the typical European boxer three times running. As mentioned earlier in the thread, a pressure fighter ought to be next. Preferably a heavy handed one.
I hope not... Could spell disaster..:-( I think he should keep beating the likes of Brancalion.. He's got the euro defend it a few times, No rush just yet,,:good
Needs to learn though. I'd imagine the last thing he wants is to end up in a world title fight against a guy with a style he has hardly faced. Generally I'd agree though, no real rush.... but I wouldn't just feed him Euro defences for the sake of it.
I think the idea of a decent, older, experienced guy who has mixed at top level is the best thing now for Clev, someone who will make him work for the victory. In my opinion he needs to fight someone like Mack/Tarver before the end of this year if he really wants to progress to the top level. I think he would have a decent chance against both as well.
It will be very interesting to see who he fights next. He already had a decent ranking with the alphabets before last night, I should imagine that will improve. As it's Frank, he'll probably go the WBO route to begin with but I can easily see Cleverly mixing with all the belt holders eventually. I don't know much about Braehmer but I'm fairly sure he could hang with Shumenov (WBA) right now.
I will say it again from here to world class Clev needs to take on a variety of styles i.e. the top rank route and not just walk on egg shells because he won't improve if he continually fights guys that are tailor made for him. I wouldn't put him in with Thierry Karl just yet because that guy can really punch but Mahamed Aripgadzhiev is a former star amateur who hasn't reached the same heights in the pro game but what he does bring is a come forward pressure style and he can punch but not concusively. Or alternatively how about Nadjib Mohammedi who he was going to fight for the vacant title before he got sparked, the guy is a slick boxer if not the biggest of punches who would surely be a step up from Brancalion. All I hope is that he (and Kevin Mitchel) doesn't sit on the shelf like Nicky Cook and Alex Arthur did when they we're on the brink of a world title shot.
mckenzie is possibly the only brit left worth fighting (apart from tony bellew of course but thats not going to happen). the ebu rankings have some solid fighters in them but some (like erdie and campillo) are above ebu level
