Top Rank has said that Pacquiao will return in November, but who will he fight? The announced candidates are Mayweather, Marquez, Valero, and Margarito. There are some problems though. First off, Mosley is out because if he wins there is a rematch. Valero might be a no go because it looks like he'll be in rehab until October. Margo might be a no go because he currently doesn't have a liscense to fight in the U.S. Mayweather is the one everyone wants to see, but it doesn't look like either side is willing to give in with the drug testing. That leaves Marquez. The problem with him though is that he hasn't fought since getting dominated by Mayweather. Unless he can get in a good win soon, it migh be hard to sell a fight between Pacquiao and a guy coming off a lopsided loss to Mayweather in lieu of a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather himself. So who does the current p4p champ fight in his return bout? Or does he just straight up retire?
if it is nov, and there is no fight in the interim, then its gotta be floyd. marquez is not an elite fighter at that weight valero has not done enough to deserve a shot at this level margarito sure as **** dosent deserve the biggest fight in boxing as a reward for how he behaved. its gotta be floyd. If for some reason or another that fight cant be made, then i would say that pacs only options are "other", other being 1. Timothy Bradley or 2. Andre Berto I dont think the fight with mosely will happen at all- unless mosley loses to floyd and its close- the reason being- floyd has a rematch clause in the event of a loss- so those two are destined to fight at least twice if floyd loses. so i think those are the only 4 possibilities, floyd, bradley, berto or mosley off of a close respectable loss. otherwise retire and enjoy your legacy pac.there is nothing else.
We know he doesn't have what it takes to step in the ring with Floyd, and Williams isn't even considered a possibility. He can fight Mosley if he loses. If it's anyone other than those three he should just retire. Unless a new challenger does some crazy AZZ **** to prove himself first within the span of 7 months. Besides wasn't he supposed to defend his LWW The Ring title for his next fight?
Let me guess....... an Arum fighter. It will probably be Valero since he is moving up and the verdict is out on his drug use. Freddie Roach will know exactly what to do against an amped up meth head.
Good post. However, it's highly doubtful that he will retire. There's too much money out there for him to just retire. He made 8 figures against Clottey.
I want to see him fight nobody else but the winner of Mosley-Mayweather...I figure that should be around November of December. If he fights someone else before the winner of that match...maybe Antonio Margarito, or Tim Bradley. Edwin Valero is a bit of a stretch, but it might be an exciting match...for about a minute, then Pac would pole-axe the wide-swinging Valero with a counter-punch.
If Floyd and Pacquiao don't fight each other they might as well both retire. There is really no other fighter out there outside of Mosley that would enhance either fighter's legacy. Once Floyd boxes Mosley's ears off he will realize the only dragon out there left to slay is the Fillipino warrior Manny Pacquiao. This fight is too big and important not to be made
Mosley is not an option, unless he loses. Margarito and Valero are pretty much out of the question for reasons already mentioned. Mayweather is busy with Mosley and even if he wins I don't see a fight with Pac happening inside 2010. So the realistic options I see are Marquez, Berto and Bradley. I don't see how JMM can be competitive vs Pacquiao at this stage of his career, even @ 140. Berto at welter and Bradley at jr. welter are good options for his next fight. Two other names that wouldn't make a very "popular" fight, but would sure as hell be interesting for me would be Devon Alexander and Marcos Maidana at 140.
Bob Arum will not risk his cash cow. He will keep it in the Top Rank family, and Pacquiao will fight Margacheato in the Philippines. This is why Margacheato is having his tune up(s) in Mexico now. Get ready for another lackluster Top Rank show designed to protect Pac, and to line Bob Arum's pockets. :rofl
