When Joe Calzaghe retires, it will mark the end of a era. Not just his career but the era of the 90's, because if you look in detail at boxing. The 90's generation of fighters, are some of the most long term fighters in history, they just don't want to leave this sport quietly. In all sports, generations move on..they have their time, they absorbed the light, like in track and field sprinting

When Maurice Greene finally retired....it was the end, he was the last man standing from "all the generation of sprinters from the mid 90's" because Maurice Greene just like Joe Calzaghe came into affect seriously in 1997.

In a way, fighters like James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, have over stayed the normal stay in boxing....in sport. Oscar De La Hoya, Roy Jones Junior, Evander Holyfield "was in affect in the 80's", are more of the fighters from the 90's that are still fighting.

There has never been so many modern day legends still knocking about in their sport at such old ages, and outside of their generation. Not in any sport, not in football, not in sprinting, none.

I don't know what the explanation is..but the Legends they don't want to die.

Who is going to replace Joe Calzaghe for the British people. I don't think Carl Froch will be much of a impact, for many years to come, but he will have success.

What ****ing other super middle weights do we have in this country for ****s sake..?

Lets be honest, Calzaghe only really came to public attention 3 years ago.

Hatton is the one that needs replacing, he has a much larger fanbase.
