Why won't Canelo - GGG happen, Rummy?

I think even if Cotto beats Canelo it will eventually happen, no?

It's between Canelo and GGG. And the bigger star will emerge post-Canelo/GGG superfight.

ggg has potential. he can go after ward and kovalev then jump more weight classes and dominate. he is not yet exposed as limited unlike canelo and cotto and he is destroying his opponents like pac. he should build his name fighting more in a year and not go after the big money fight with floyd.

Gotta disagree with you there buffy I do agree about Pacquaio being a crossover star Remember he was one of the judges chosen to pick Miss Universe, he was also invited to dinner with Britain's royalfy Prince Harry no less. But what has Floyd been invited to do?? Who invited him to dine with them???
Seriously try this out you'll see I'm right. Get a pic of Floyd in street clothes go out into the street, show people the pic & ask them who it is. I'll bet 7 or 8 out of 10 will not have a clue.
When you tell them its Floyd Mayweather jr at least 3 or 4 will still say " Who"???? :patsch

    Something like this.
    Canelo Alvarez
    Gennady Golovkin
    Sergey Kovalev

    Terrance Crawford
    Kell Brook

    Roman Gonzalez

    Keith Thurman

    Amir Khan

    Danny Garcia

OK. Put it to the test.

When are you predicting GGG-Canelo going to happen?

If Cotto beats Canelo it may be more likely to happen, but would be far less significant than it already would be.

I've been watching boxing long enough to know that the alphabet organizations are prone to making up the rules as they go along, and giving exemptions whenever it suits their greater interests.

I don't trust the WBC. But even if the WBC does enforce their own rules, which would really surprise me a lot, I don't believe for one second that Oscar is going to risk his young commodity any time soon, and I think he has the political clout to maneuver around it, and will do so as long as feasibly possible given Canelo's youth and the fact he stands almost no chance at all against Golovkin.

Best case scenario for GGG, the WBC enforces their rules and he gets to fight his usual caliber opponent for the vacant strap. Worst case scenario, the WBC bends him over repeatedly - which is exactly what they've been doing all along anyway, no?

How many times has the WBC already guaranteed a shot to Golovkin only to flip-flop and make some kind of exception?

I think Canelo is willing to face GGG anytime, but Oscar won't let him ...at least anytime soon.

That's the driving point in my argument as to why we shouldn't expect that one any time soon. And then there's the whole WBC obstacle.

But GGG having a successful showcase on his debut PPV headliner could possibly shift things around in a way that may be more favorable to him than I'm expecting or anticipating.

But I really think GGG needed a b-side PPV event to help build him in the direction his team is striving for.

How many guys have busted out of the gate with a successful first A-side PPV without first proving their worth somehow in a B-side capacity? (I hate that terminology, but I'm trying to think of another recent example that would fit the bill).

And incidentally, regarding the poll, Kovalev is by far the most accomplished of the listed options, has the most crowd-pleasing style, has a likable yet villainous/sadistic personality, and has the best probability by my estimation of remaining unbeaten for the longest stretch in the foreseeable future.

He'd be my top choice from this list.

Mine too, but I'm sure most fans will see it differently. Mostly because Canelo is cute. And GGG says Good Boy a lot.

I'll go a step further, and say it's not out of the realm of possibility that Ward could be the eventual heir to this throne. As unlikely as that may seem to many, he has at least 2 potentially big PPV events on the horizon with Golovkin and Kovalev (and maybe a few others).

I believe Ward would most likely beat Golovkin handily, and while I favor Kovalev against Ward, it's a fight that Ward would have as good a chance as anyone against Kovalev.

Should Ward beat Golovkin and Kovalev on big PPV cards, he will undoubtedly be viewed as #1 P4P, and this would inherently make him a contender for being the future PPV King.

So I personally think Kovalev or Ward could end up being the future heir.

But I don't believe there will be a direct passing of the torch, like we had from Oscar to both Floyd and Manny. I think there will be a period of time where this kind of thing sorts itself out, and after a few years, a new clear PPV Kind will emerge.

So, once again, when are you predicting that Canelo-Golovkin happens? Early next year? That seems to be your insinuation.

Now, I can see that happening. That's a good look. Also, for me, I think that Amir Imam will rise to the top. He brings energy to a fight. He is exciting and charismatic. Plus his skills and talent are already showing signs of greatness.
