It will be between Cuba and Uzbekistan. I just checked how many have qualified for Paris: Cuba - 5 & Uzbekistan - 7. IMO Arlen Lopez and De La Cruz will certainly medal. Jalolov will 100 percent win the gold medal. Hasanboy and Lazibek will earn medals. My bet is Uzbekistan. (although, I instinctively picked Cuba, cause you know its Cuba. ) It's weird that after all this time, Cuba has never invested in women's boxing. I've seen videos that showed women training in boxing, but if you look in Wikipedia, only men are listed.
You don’t think De La Cruz’s age will catch up to him? I hope he joins the three medal club and joins his countrymen Savon and Stevenson but at 34 and with him clearly declining I’m not sure how realistic it will be. Agree on everything else though.
I've followed the amateur boxing pretty closely this year. There's no one dominant nation these days. If forced to choose one, I'll go Australia. 12 boxers qualified (6 each, men & women). The @Sandman_ 's gold medal specials appear below. None of my men's picks have been seeded top 4 but I expect them all to win. Women's Jr. Flyweight - China Women's Welterweight - Algeria Women's Middleweight - Canada Men's Light Heavy - Australia Men's Heavyweight - Brazil Men's Super Heavy - Australia
His age shouldn't be a problem. Roniel Iglesias was 33 during the Tokyo Olympics and he did fabulously. De La Cruz isn't quite as agile as he once was, but I still think his form is solid based off his last couple of fights I've seen. Like this one: This content is protected IMO, he will end up at least on the semi-finals. It is either him or Lazibek, who will wind up with the gold. Which will be an excellent fight.
I presume your referring to the oddly named Teremoana Jnr correct? How good is he? I haven't seen any fights of his. I really doubt he can beat Jalolov, but do you think he can medal? I checked the Australian bracket, and I do agree Australia has a good chance to do great in Paris. Edit, Jnr has fought Jalolov before. This content is protected
Teremoana should have been seeded top 4. He's been shafted with the seedings & will have to fight Jalolov in the second round of the competition. So he either beats him or he doesn't medal. Teremoana had only been on the national team for a few months when he fought Jalolov at the last world championships. He's now been on the team for 18 months & hasn't lost since. I think he can do it.
That was a horrific stoppage, one of the worst I've ever seen. He did pretty good against Jalolov bringing the pressure. Smh
I would like to see Teremoana lay hands on Jalolov early in the fight & throw him to the canvas a couple of times. Just to let him know there's a new King of the Super Heavyweight jungle. Toss him around like a stuffed koala bear. Here's Teremoana in action earlier this year against the top African qualifier & Olympic tournament #3 seed. Man down! This content is protected
