Thats a good question, no real standout win. Lets not forget Ortiz won almost every round of both fights just his 40 year old chin didn't hold up.
I’m not going to defend Wilder’s record, I fully agree he was a protected champion who took very few risks until Fury. However, to say he was never top tier is not true. He was rated by pretty much everyone as one of the top 3 heavyweight in the world at his peak, and he beat guys who were rated in the top 10 at the time, which none of the guys I mentioned are now.
Yes, but the ratings weren't based on anything. There was a time everyone thought the world is flat, but its not.
He should try and make the Andy Ruiz Jr fight. Hopefully the Saudi's will bank roll it so even they can meet Ruiz's ridiculous purse demands. Both these guys are washed up right now, Wilder due to age and the beatings he took of Fury and Ruiz down to poor lifestyle choices and inactivity, so they need to avoid the top guys and a win still has some name recognition and would get the winner some momentum to face a top guy. If Ruiz Jr simply prices himself out again then perhaps Anderson. If Martin can land cleanly even this over the hill Wilder can land against Anderson's dumb lean back defence.
Wilder only beat non world level opposition and loses every time he has stepped up to world level. If Wilder goes back to PBC to fight Miller, Charles Martin, Ajagba and Luis Ortiz etc then he can pick up the wins but what's the point. Wilder loses to all Usyk, AJ, Fury, Parker, Kabayel, Zhang, Dubois, Joyce, Hrgovic, Sanchez Bakole, Whyte and Anderson.
He's 38.... Whyte, Joyce or Chisora would make sense from being possibly winnable but realistically he's shot and needs to retire. The speed and snap has gone from his punches and after his power he had 0 of anything else. No inside game, can't control distance, no real defensive prowess and a tool in the corner.
All those fights would be good. Ngannou is probably the most bankable, although at this stage Wilder probably needs a brutal KO win over some journeyman to sell it. His stock's really at rock bottom right now.
Is this thread a joke? Wilder is completely spent. He has no fight left in him, physically or mentally. What part of his last 2 fights suggests anything different? He barely threw anything and spent most of his time backpedaling. He's nothing but a punching bag now.
