Cloud should win this based on his youth, but I've never been sold on him. Not all that versatile, and a leaky defense. It would be better for the division if he wins, though.
No I think Glen Johnson is going to where Cloud down in the latter rounds and win by TKO, Cloud is not going to be able to take the pressure that Glen puts through out the fight.
I agree Cloud has a good chin, but when has Kirkland ever showed a vulnerable chin? The shots from a good puncher like Julio didnt even phase Kirkland. Clouds defense needs some tightning up but part of that has to do with him not respecting Woods power. I think the only one who can beat Cloud is Dawson and even then i give Cloud a punchers chance.
I never saw this before. One thing that didn not suprise me was the way Kirkland turned it up a notch after being dropped. Im thinking this was more of a case of an inexperienced Kirkland being caught, than him having a questionable chin. But this is something that ill be looking for when he faces a quality fighter with a good punch. He seemed to basically laugh off Julios shots though.
There's a ton of questions going into this fight. However, I'm thinking Cloud pulls out a close decision victory. If Cloud were able to KO Johnson...he'd get a ridiculous amount of respect and hype on this board.
I like this fight alot. Coffee Johnson is always coming to fight, and so is TCloud. Sad one of them has to lose, but as a previous poster stated: Out with the old, and in with the new. Cloud TKO RD 10
I see a lot of posters arguing over whether or not we should compare Cloud to Jeff Lacy. In the past I compared him to peak Miranda at 160. He's a LHW version of MW Miranda. That's NOT an insult of any kind. People forget what Miranda was like there for awhile. The kid gave Abraham his toughest fight ever, and fought 4 top ten guys in something like 8 or 9 months. Those guys had a combined record of 134-4 with 111 KO's. In other words, a 97% win ratio, and an 83% KO ratio. Tavoris Cloud does in fact remind me of a peak Miranda.
Hes more relentless than Miranda and i think a better fighter, however Miranda could really bang and i might give him the edge in power (pfp). I think Cloud would kick ass on Abraham.
Like I said earlier, there's a lot of questions going into this fight. However, there are to things I am certain of: 1). Glen Johnson has lost a step- no, not because of his fight with Chad Dawson(who's made many look bad), but actually from his victory over Mack. Mack has a history of tiring during a fight seems like a bad pairing with a Glen Johnson of 5 years ago relentless assault. However, Glen did not ever really put on his trademark pressure (granted this didn't keep Mack from tiring/getting injured, or whatever happened in there). That's not to say Glen can't dig down deep though. and 2). Glen's the craftiest guy Tavoris has faced at this stage in his career. No offense meant to Woods. The combination of Johnson's upper body movement, defense, chin, and style of fighting make this a tough fight for Cloud. The questions I have going into the fight is: Glen hasn't face a BIG puncher in a while(and in the fact that Cloud throws a large volume it's been a LONG while since Johnson's faced that combination), we'll be able to see if that bear is still made of iron should several Cloud punches cut through. Cloud's wasted another year of inactivity. How much ring rust will he have? Will Johnson be able to make Cloud pay for his leaky defense? So far, Cloud hasn't shown much respect to anybody's power(or lack thereof). Glen's not an overwhelming power puncher, but can he earn Cloud's respect and change the fight? How will Cloud respond to adversity? He hasn't really been tested as far as I know. Sure, Woods landed some good shots but nothing discouraged Cloud in any way, shape, or form and Cloud was able to land a LOT of good shots back on Woods. How will he react when he's not only getting hit, but a lot of the punches he throws find gloves? EDIT: Even though he'll have some ring rust, I wonder if Cloud will fight smarter. I think he could've had Gonzalez out of there sooner and KO'd Clinton Woods if he wouldn't head-hunt when he had them in trouble. If he would've worked the body and come up, I think he would've made quicker work out of both Those are a few of my questions. It looks like it could be a fight of the year candidate!:bbb
