Yeah it's a bit over the top, it wouldn't bother me, but I'd say some people just hate that if it was the other way around there's be more controvsy

It was more the double standard thing that put people off about the comment. For instance: If Calzaghe had said something similar the fallout would have been far worse.

Any one that knows Bernard Hopkins realize he is in no way a racist. Nard is a family man no hookers & coke lines in Nard's life

That's pure unadulterated bovine feces. Nard is 10 times the man Calzaghe wishes he was

for sure it was the double standard thing. What I'm saying is that people act like it was the first time that they were even introduced to the concept of the double standard.

Wow, do people not like Hops? I thought he'd be the overwhelming favorite. I figured the fact that he's been around for so long and his age would make him the sentimental favorite.

Years ago he said somethings that pissed off a lot of overly sensitive people (due to the double standard of it).

In promoting the Calzaghe fight he said this:
"You're not even in my league! I would never let a white boy beat me. I would never lose to a white boy. I couldn't go back to the projects if I let a white boy beat me."

Some people call him a racist and dislike him for that. Others don't like his 'spoiler' type fighting. Others think he's dirty.

Personally, I don't really care if he doesn't like white people. I'm amazed that he's taking this fight at this age against someone like Kovalev.

I also enjoy his somewhat cerebral approach to boxing in general. Some people don't dig it, which is cool, it takes all kinds.

I voted neither but I would like for Hopkins to not to get hurt.

I honestly can't believe anyone would really dislike him over that, even if they were foolish enough to not understand that's him just saying something incendiary to hype the fight.

I do like B-Hop and it would be great for him if he somehow pulled it off, but for me this is important for the bigger picture that he's not going to win this.

first of all is that it would reflect to Ex-Soviet boxers if he would win. It's one thing to beat countryman Cloud, but if he beats coming star Kovalev a lot of people are going to say Eastern European/Central Asians etc suck and are all overhyped. Of course that's bull, but it would happen.

second, the future of the division itself. Sure Hopkins would do everything to get Stevenson in the ring with him, and if Adonis refuses/avoids him he would be crucified. But what if Stevenson fights him and lands his moneyshot? I'm prety sure he'll pull a Ward and counts every one of Hopkins' wins as "beneath him" to avoid the guys that can beat him.
And if B-Hop wins that he will probably ride into the sunset leaving the division in turmoil (not his fault) and the belt collecting needs to start from scratch with a lot of guys not wanting to face eachother

third, we would have a hardpunching, exciting champ if Kova wins. It's hard to avoid him with so many belts and would be great for the division.

that's why I'm rooting for Kovalev. But B-Hop is a warrior.
