Yeah I think thats very unlikely that Roy gets stopped. He didnt get hit much at all at 160 and SRL didnt hit hard enough to put him down with one shot so he would have to be landing on him a lot and breaking him down and I dont think he will enough to put him in any serious trouble. With the right strategy he may be able to get a decision but I worry about him tiring towards the late rounds where as roy was at his peak physically and would be fresh.
Leonard was an absolute great, one of my favourite boxers, but Jones would also become a great, and I just feel at 160lbs Jones would have been to much for Leonard and would have won on points
Loenard would defend agasint any of Jones flashy attacks. ANY one OF THEM . He may be able to catche Leonard with a good flurry of shots here and there and even drop Leonard. But dropping Leonard almost meant nothing , as he has shown he would take a knee; if he got put in a situation that didnt look good for him. When Jones gets put in a situation he gets knocked out everytime. Jones best defensive posture is his left hand straight up and his right hand down by his waist. Doing this agasint an offesnive juggernaut like Leonard would be a disater for Jones. Loenard would not miss. We have seen smaller guys beat bigger guys and this wouldnt be any different. Loeanrd would be quick and powerful whil Jones will just be mostly quick . Loenard has the defensive tools to prevent jones from doing his best work. Jones definately would not be able to protect himself from Leonard's assault.
Try to be a little less biased. You give SRL free passes for being "past his best" in the second Hearns fight but then you go and bring up Jone's KO losses in the end of his career at 175 when this fight is at 160 where Jones was never in any serious trouble, rarely lost rounds and beat Hopkins and Toney at 168.
Roy by unanimous decision and it would be easy. Roy would pin Leonard against the ropes and work him over. Roy is too big and strong. SRL would probably have two detached retinas after this fight.
Loenard would use defense in this scenario . Something jones knows little to nothing about. Jones could try that . But with his weak punch resistance and leaky defense ( more holes than swiss cheese ) He get counterd while pushing forward and start dancing around like in the third fight with Tarver; on that counter hook, when jones walked forward. ( Tarver is able to bully Jones in fights 1 & 2 and then counter him in the third fight. Tarver could basically do what he wanted to Jones , when he wanted ) I know time and time again ESB pics fights based on size and strength but Jones doesnt even have that type of power .
Your posts on this thread are extremely ignorant. Please obtain some Jones fights prior to the 2000s and educate yourself. Roy would easily defeat Leonard at 160. SRL would have the option of dancing around and losing a wide decision or slugging why you believe this would be a good strategy for him, I have no idea and get KTFO. I would favor a prime (circa 1980) Hagler in a close decision against Jones at 160, but at 168 the smart money would be on Roy against anyone in history. Jones has too much strength and power for SRL at 160. He was a much better offensive fighter in 1994 than Hagler was in 1987 it's not even close. And against Hagler, Leonard made certain not to mix it up. Roy also did get hit at times at 160 and never had a problem. Hopkins landed a few good shots, as did Toney at 168. Griffin was the first guy to really unload on Jones, at 175, and even so Roy was never in any trouble.
Ray Loenard and Roy Jones are two of my favorite fighters. Just becasue I think one can beat the other doesnt make me ignorant. Ray Leonard is a better fighter than Jones hands down. Better at defense , better at effective offense, has more power and is way smarter than Jones . Will take a knee when in trouble while Jones gets knocked the **** out . But I'm the ignorant onehuh? When Jones got cornered by Greeen any decent average figter would cover themslevs properly but not Jones becasue he never ever knew how to do that. Instead he gets knocked out . You cannot give Ray that oppurtunity becasuse he will knock you out as well. Jones can do a few things to trouble Ray but I dont think he could beat Loenard . No way. Jones makes too many mistakes period. EVEN at middleweight.
Cotto is too strong for PAc? Remember that one? :rofl Jones maybe stronger than Loenard but he is not a better fighter at all. Not even close. fast hands and flash does not work agasint everyone. Frazier / Ali anyone? Jones cant beat Ray IMO
look i cant stand roy but hes one of most atheleticly gifted ever his downfall has been father time he cant win on atheletism alone anmust fight therfor hes been caught lately srl vs roy wouldve been realy good figt speed even power edge to jones roy wins close dec
