if they fight today @ 168, who wins? assuming they right in US taylor or kessler? i think taylor is overrated at 160 while underrated at 168. i think he ran out of gas in the two hopkins fight and was same same story in his fights with pavlik..but at 168 he is untested but he believe that he is the best fighter in that division right now kessler meanwhile has been a dominant force in the division for a decade. my favorite fights of kessler were against beyer and lucas..skill and power..
I think Kessler knocks him out in the mid rounds. I'm sure Taylor would start well, he's got a little more handspeed, good double jab. I think Kessler's technical proficiency and strength would take over when the pace slows, and his jab would then start to dominate. I don't think Taylor can take too many big rights from Kessler, he's not Andrade.
Wait... what? :rofl First time Kessler had any kind of impact in the division was less then 5 years ago when he won the vacant WBA Title from Manny Siaca. Then he went on to make a name for himself by beating Mundine, Lucas, Beyer and Andrade. Before that he was a nobody with nothing worth mentioning on his record.
Judging by taylors two losses to pavlik and sloppy win over jermain taylor and kesslers brave loss to calzaghe and win over haussler i say kessler. Jermain taylor got put on his ass by a damaged jeff lacy and was ko'ed by pavlik. Kessler however in the final round showed heart and went for the ko so all in all i go with Mikel
The big difference between Kessler and Taylor is that Kessler never underperforms. Taylor gave away a winnable fight against Pavlik and seems to have ring ADD. Against Ouma and Spinks, he didn't keep up what worked well and gave away rounds. He has talent and athleticism, but not the concentration and stamina to maximize his talents. Kessler on the other hand fights well for 12 rounds and makes very few mistakes. Even in a losing effort against Calzaghe, he was game until the final bell. With Taylor, there is often that "he could have done better" feeling after a fight, I can't remember ever feeling that about Kessler. Kessler by UD or late TKO.
I pick Taylor. Taylor is underrated now. He has great handspeed and a good right hand and ok jab. If he gets in shape and uses some of his experience, he can do well. He outboxed Hopkins all night or rather was a little quicker which helped him win the rounds he needed. The only thing which I see about Taylor which is his downfall is that he cannot stick to a gameplan. If he had the discipline of Hopkins with his own skill and speed he would not lose too often.
Probably Kessler. Taylor did dominate Post-Calzaghe Lacy in their fight, but never in the manner that Calzaghe did and he got rocked hard a bit. Even if Kessler lost, it was just because Calzaghe went on another level. I couldn't believe it at first but Calzaghe actually took away most of Mikkel's uppercuts after that 4th round. Calzaghe even countered one of them in the 7th severely that Mikkel stopped using it almost immediately. So yeah, Kessler for me by clear UD or late KO.
I agree, but I think he has other issues. I am not a believer in his stamina over 12 rounds if he is put under consistent pressure. I also think he loses concentration, not just to stick to a gameplan, but dropping his hands when he is tired - defensive issues. Kessler has his own problems too, but not quite so glaring.
