Well, it looks like that we have an interesting matchup now in the super middleweight division as Carl Froch won a 12-round UD over Jean Pascal to claim the vacant WBC Super Middleweight Championship. Waiting in the wings for about severa weeks now is the #1 WBC Mandatory Challenger and Contender, Jermain Taylor. Taylor himself won a 12-round UD over former 2000 America Olympian and former IBF SMW champ, Jeff Lacy. So, how will this upcoming battle between the undefeated Froch and the former undisputed middleweight champ Taylor unfold. Do we see an undefeated Brit continue his winning ways and hold to the title or the re-emergence of Taylor as a world champion in a second weight class? Vote in the poll and comment...
froch KO taylor, 6-7 rounds..... i hope he grows balls to fight froch and travels and dont follow the footsteps of the american "legends" ahem bernard ahem...whom never leave there comfort zones.
I was impressed by Froch's chin last night and think that the way both he and Pascal fought may have been down to nerves i.e. trying to blast each other out with no thought of defence! Was great to see two unbeaten fighters both really wanting to win. If Froch goes back to his more fluid style & improves his defence I could see him taking Taylor's best shots, but Taylor not being able to take his. Mid to late round stoppage for Froch
atsch Bernard said he doesn't mind fighting in Wales for Calzaghe. Taylor, Kessler, Calzaghe, Bernard are all in a different league to Froch. His defence is just so bad. He dangles his hands around, but doesn't even have the reflexes to dodge the shots. Kessler would dispense with him in the late rounds, Taylor would outpoint him with superior skills.
i would pick taylor on points. but i do not think it is going to happen. fight might go to purse bids and if team taylor lost the purse bid i do not think they would leave america. it will all depend on how much team taylor offer to froch before a purse bid could get underway or how much team taylor put in fro a purse bid. in there favour is the weakness of the pound.
taylor is in a quandry though froch uk has a following and financial backing kessler has financial backing bute has financial backing. inkin is the only fighter whose promoter would take little money to attract . so team taylor is going to have to pay a fair bit of money for fighters not well known to an american audience, if they want the fight at home in taylor`s backyard unless he goes for inkin. of course there is a chance of calzaghe but taylor seems to want a calzaghe fight to take place in america and not wales, maybe scuppering a proposed fight.
I think Taylor could expose the weaknesses in Froch's defence, but Froch showed last night that he has a good chin, so I can see Taylor winning on points. However, I also believe Froch is going to hit Taylor harder than Pavlik did, and with a not dissimaler style. I also think Taylor can be a quite lazy fighter, a passive fighter. I think it's 50/50, largely depending on what version of Taylor shows up. And I don't think Taylor really wants to fight Froch, he's a relatively unknown, unbeaten, motivated and dangerous fighter, and it will be hard to find (decent) opponents for him.
