I actually think JCs dad was a pretty good trainer and proved the point that you don't have to be a boxer to be a trainer.
And I also think JCs dad brought out the best in Joe.

You talk about petty agenda and then have a petty agenda in your second sentence.

Honestly people showed their agendas when Ward rightly said these Euros were taking food off his table. It was a reasonable statement considering Ward was the best fighter in the world then and still didn't have a big money fight like Froch v Groves! And if Ward was ignorant about the plight of immigrants it's on the edumacation system of Murica to do a better job, more trips to the plaque on the statue of liberty about dragging in the globe and so on.

Despite all that Ward generously let the MW Paul Smith he dragged up while fighting the best keep his pay after coming to the fight fat and trying to get a size advantage over SOG. Ward was fighting undersized and was lucky he wasn't overpowered. Weirdly he looked bigger than Kovalev at 175, but definitely he was a small dude back then. The point is, Ward generously let Paul keep his bread even though he was stealing it.

Calzaghe, who was actually an Italian taking the food of the table of the Welsh fighters, would probably win. The reason is that he had a better chin and probably still more power even with bad hands. Ward was better at dirty fighting though and that can make a difference.

    Ward would neutralise Calzaghe speed.

Yes, another reason why I cannot abide him, Brother Olu.

This coming from the mouth of the dirtiest fighter of his generation beggars belief

''I'm not a dirty fighter. You can check any of my 20 fights I've never done that intentionally''

Jim Grey: ''Are you a dirty fighter?''

    Andre Ward: ''Absolutely not!''

''I'm glad that I can win ugly sometimes (ROFL), because at the end of the day it's just about winning, right?

''I'm just saying, man, every cut I got is a headbutt or an elbow. Every single one.

''But that's why there's a third man in the ring (ROFL)''

''All these are either blatant headbutts or elbows, literally blatant. Not one of these was from a punch''

"We expected this kind of fight with Bika," Ward said. "Every laceration I have was literally [from] a headbutt or an elbow. I clearly remember each one of them. That's what you get when you fight a guy like Sakio."

---Andre Ward after the Bika fight

''At the end of the day, boxing is already a tough enough business to not have to put up with illegal blows.

''I don't mind the occasional foul if it's an accident but the intentional stuff I just can't put up with it''

    --Andre Ward

Read those quotes and then watch this. Even just watching a few seconds of it will be more than enough, let alone watching the whole thing which I strongly recommend all his fans do to remind themselves how insanely dirty he was

He was, especially considering the fact he was a musician who had zero boxing experience. He was also blessed with a very physically gifted and naturally talented son though.

Based on nothing. Ward never fought any quick fighters. Not one... & I'll tell you another thing that is underrated about Calzaghe.. his footwork and distance control. Ward would have fits with him.. he was excessively groping slower/come forward fighters cos he couldn't make it through 12 without stalling & spoiling .. how do u think he would act with the angles and work rate of a Calzaghe?

Difficult prediction, certainly. I consider Calzaghe the best super middleweight ever, stamina, speed and workrate are his strong points with which he would have created problems for all the best in the category. But for characteristics Ward (who I consider a great champion) in my opinion would have had a good chance of beating him. The elusiveness of the American, his counterpunching skills and excellent timing I think could have gotten the better of the Welshman, after a match in which both fighters would have had their moments. So I say Ward by close but unanimous decision

1 Ward was a stay at home fighter who knew his style suited a hometown ref.
2 Calzaghe travelled everywhere, England, Scotland, Wales, Denmark, Germany. America
3 Nard blatantly ducked Zags in 2002, he knew what was coming.
4 Calzaghe has an almost jazz like free form adaption style that Ward wouldn't have been able to deal with.
I think Calzaghe would not only beat him but school him and if they fought when they were both younger Calzaghe would stop him.
    That's how it pans out.

Seen some say Ward would clinch and rough up Joe C if they had fought, nullifying his aggression and volume. But Joe also had excellent movement and fast feet. I don't think Ward would be too successful trying to clinch his way to a win.

Based on nothing? Go check out Ward's career in depth. Calzaghe was a hell of a fighter but he losses to Ward in close close fight. The likes of Hopkins gave Calzaghe a heap of problems, and Ward is similar ilk but for me with a bit for freshness and guile. Angles and work-rate? To be honest you have a point that would be a problem, but Ward is dirty and smart enough on inside to smother Joe and frustrate him.
