Even though i think Juanma is a big bantam, i still think Gamboa is too big for him. I still havent seen Juanma chin tested and Gamboa is a powerful dude, (Juanma too but at a significantly smaller weight class). Many here probably chose Juanma because Gamboa has been flashed knocked down. I chose Gamboa.

4 lbs isn't that big of a difference, maybe for a small guy like Wilfredo Gomez, but JuanMa has the frame of an Erik Morales and big punching power, plus he is young, if he moves up within the next year I think he'll be the same fighter, plus, Gamboa is tiny himself.

As I say per previous 'analysis', it's a true 50-50 fight due to all the variables involved. I agree with you that most of the poll choices are a knee-jerk reaction to Gamboa's flash KD's, but I think it would be harsh to call Gamboa a 'china chin' as that would take away from JuanMa were he to knock Gamboa out.

I used Aaron Pryor as an early reference, his flash KD's in the beginning part of his career where the same as Gamboa's, not even buzzed and staright abck to work, except, Cervantes aside, there were against a much lower calibre of opposition than those that Gamboa has been facing.

I can't believe there's a young ex-Olympian that has come around that can punch, box, has unbelievable handspeed, and can get off the deck and still have his opponent on the back foot, and people just call him a 'glass jaw'.

Another thing to take into account, is that at 27 and with so many amateur bouts, Gamboa has a lot more experience than JuanMa. I don't think we've seen all of Gamboa yet, but, to the same extent we've only seen a tiny amount of Lopez's capabilities.

A must-make fight for so many reasons :good

Good stuff, good stuff. Gamboa campaigns at 130 though not 126, and that is an 8 pound and significant weight difference.

Again, it's 4lbs, Gamboa has been campaigning at 126 for some time now, and holds the 126 WBA interim championship. So it's 4 lbs, from 122 to 126.

Well, you have a point. If Gamboa is off balance/overzealous/defensively suspect to the point that a C+ fighter can knock him down, then if JuanMa is going to get into those positions to attack it could be lights out for Gamboa.

But, as I said previously, let's see how JuanMa gets on against Penelosa. We are still yet to see what happens when a quality fighter takes Lopez some rounds.

If JuanMa blasts Penelosa away as easy as his previous opponents, we will know his power truly is for real (I suspect it is anyways, the kid is a beast)

However, I hope Penelosa can stand up to the early barrage and we get 10-12 rounds of JuanMa's full arsenal, his boxing, his ability to take a punch, his inside fighting and how he unloads when he's under pressure, and, most likely, how he deals with a canny veteran who can do just enough to win and more than enough to frustrate Lopez.

Intriguing fight either way and a positive step forward, the first ready guy out of Vasquez and Marquez should be next, assuming Caballero is moving up. If not, Molitor will do.
