Maybe, and it's just an opinion, the difference that 10-15 pounds makes is less pronounced and effective when you get to the cruiserweights and smaller heavyweights.

They are big guys anyway, and that extra 10-15 i use an example can often be the discrepancy amongst the biggest guys anyway.

I mean, Fury was some 25+ pounds heavier than Wilder in their fights, and Wilder was still able to put him on his backside.

Now, that might prove it makes no difference...until Fury bashed him all over the place in the rematch and made Wilder look like a guy 2 weight classes smaller.

The point I'm trying to make is, perhaps, the weight difference is more of an advantage among the smaller guys.

A welterweight having a 10-15 pound weight advantage against another welterweight is going to be more of an advantage than if a cruiserweight is 10-15 pounds bigger than another cruiserweight, or the same with heavyweights.

In fact, the smaller the fighter the more unfair it becomes.

Imagine, a flyweight fighting a guy 15 pounds heavier than him.

A guy who is just as skilled, just as motivated, as brave, who hits just as hard, but is also 15 pounds heavier - and it's all bulk that helps add extra, damaging, power to his big shots.

It is distinctly unfair and could be dangerous.

    Interesting results thus far.

I'm wondering if anything would look significantly different had Holmes been included instead of, say Joe Frazier, who is currently polling last with less than 1% of the vote.

I suggest just to add longer list with variants.
Prime shape Holmes ( no from 1988 th and later but from 1978-1980 th ) deserves to be on list.
Btw I'm not so sure that Mike in 1988 th might had beat Holmes version from 1980 th. Not sure.

I do regret leaving Holmes out, in hindsight.

Joe was more a personal favourite.

I also thought he might be more popular than he has turned out to be.

I had considered a bigger list, but to have a tournament format means having to double it each time - so it has to be 16 if it isn't 8...and I felt 16 was a bit too many.

Ali v Lewis is a worthy final for any tournament. A proper head scratcher but I think Lewis takes it personally, again I think he’s just too big and powerful.

Lewis would come out on top. I've already thought about this. The final fight would be Ali vs Lewis and Lewis would beat him by decision. But whoever Lewis fights, he's beating them.

He'd make Ali come forward because Ali was somewhat agressive against taller fighters like Terrell and Bunger. But this time Lewis would be firing back and would outwork Ali at midrange.

I would have included both Klitschko brothers. Vitali is a tough head-to-head fight for anyone.

I know right, bonehead of a poster. I dont agree with his opinion the Fury beats Ali due to being too big and skilled for Ali, did this guy not watch Fury struggle to outbox Steve Cunningham who was the same size as Ali ? LOL

But at the very least i understand were that opinion is coming from. Ali never fought anyone near as big as Fury, the closest thing he fought to Fury was Joe Bunger who was 6'4, 230lb(in their second fight) and Ali himself was a large heavyweight in his day, at least before the mid 70s came along. At least Lennox Lewis fought multiple 6'7, 240lb+ heavyweights

But Haye beating Ali ? Some of the stupidest **** i have ever seen on this forum and I've seen some outlandish crap

    I think that's a fair assessment.

I mean, I suppose you could make an argument Ali could box on the back foot continuously, using his great footwork and movement...but can he do it for 15 rounds?

I must admit, the idea of Haye beating Ali wasn't something I could easily accept.

Let's remember, Haye was strong and could bang - but Ali could take a shot too.

I just don't see Ali losing.

Lewis was maybe even more chinny than Wlad and Lewis fans are with a glance milking Lewis win via cuts vs late replacement lad for Lewis in Vitali.
They likes to masturbate and brag about this win.

I walue Lewis lower than Patterson skills wise for sure.
250 lbs Patterson imaginable version in Lewis size vs prime Lewis = Patterson via stoppage.

Lewis sometimes needed to get 2 proper punches until he get dizzy and Lewis fans are most annoying stuff in this forum posts.
Overrated as hell, struggled vs over the hill small HWs in Mike and Holy.

Almost any fighter can be called "overrated" by someone if they really want to take apart their resume bit by bit.

Mayweather beat Canelo, but it wasn't the Canelo of today so Mayweather is overrated - or Canelo beat Kovalev but it wasn't the Kovalev of years ago so Canelo is overrated...on and on.

How about fighters who were/are underrated?

If they are underrated but then beat someone who is overrated what happens then?

Does a tear appear in the very fabric of space time, which gradually pulls our entire solar system through a worm hole the size of a tennis ball, condensing everything into a burning ball of gas which then explodes and sprays the constituent parts back into the void causing a new solar system to form around a ghostly pale white star that will become our new sun in about 3.5 billion years?

Well, for Floyd Jr vs Canelo it did not had looked like a lot of ppl claim there how inexperienced he was. Canelo before this had fought vs Mosley:p who is very good and highly experienced boxer etc and had impressive looking pro record, Floyd Jr was 36 y.o and it wasn't PBF anymore.
Nice and cool prime Floyd before he had problems with hands, had moved up in weight classes etc things?

Kovalev vs Canelo? I do know that majority of US boxers fans didn't had watched Kovalev vs Eleider I st fight and Kovalev vs Yarde in Russia. They also does not care nor about age nor mileage if boxer is not from their country or they are not his fans.

Everyone does knows ( expect Canelo fans ) that he did not had fought a LHW after dealing vs Kovalev who before this barely had defeated Yarde in Russia.

I do know that you most likely value more fighter's surname and origin than real matchup level.
For example I might had gave more credit to Ward for fighting vs this and then Kovalev even if Ward had lost these fights via stoppage rather than Canelo vs shot over the hill Kovalev fight.
Where till end of fight Boxing brand did not had looked better than Yarde vs Kovalev. Blind eyes are fans eyes with rosa glasses.
