So, I was thinking about which division has thrown up the best fighters, fights, rivalries etc...and while heavyweights are obviously very important in terms of the biggest events in all of boxing (some might say all of sport full stop), and at welterweight we often see great match ups which ensure it is always competitive, my personal favourite is the middleweight division.

Some of my favourite fighters, some of the most memorable occasions, most intense beefs, have come from those who compete at 160.

It got me thinking about past greats, classic match ups, how the guys today would fare etc...and I imagined a World Super Series that somehow, through the power of imagination, allowed all those greats to go into a knockout format to crown a champion.

Agreed, styles make fights, and just because X beats Y doesn't mean he could beat A even though A lost to B...if you see my point?

Regardless, it's all for fun so I decided to try and narrow down a list and put them into a tournament face off - a bit like a football (soccer) world cup with 4 quarter finals, then 2 semis, and the final.

    Anyone who has fought at/as a middleweight can be considered, and so my personal 8 are as follows;

    Hagler
    Canelo
    GGG
    Benn
    Eubank snr
    Toney
    LaMotta
    Jones jnr

Now, absolutely these aren't definitively the best, and I know I've missed other big names, it's just my personal favourites who I'd like to see face off.

Again, these aren't necessarily the best 8 middleweights who ever lived; they are merely my favourite 8.

That being said, I'd love to hear who you guys would add to a list of the best.

The poll is purely to see who you think would win based on the fighter named, it doesn't mean you think they are the best full stop.

    So...what do we think?

    P.S i voted for Toney

P.P.S it's meant to be Eubank snr in the poll but it auto corrected and I can't seem to change it.

Mate, can you imagine a prime GGG and a prime Hagler going at it?

    That's not going 12 rounds.

Actually, didn't they do 15 rounds when Hagler fought?

Hagler for sure. Hagler vs GGG would be a dream match up.

15 round match for the undisputed middleweight championship. Though both have good jabs , Hagler's was exceptional with a reach advantage . I'd say Marvin controls the action, pace, and distance with his piston right jab with spasms of violent encounters during the fight. Marvin's strength will be an important component also,I think it goes the distance with Hagler taking a UD in the 144-141 range with Marvin suffering a cut and Gennady having swollen puffy eyes.
