I don't blame you. Toney is my favorite fighter of all time, BUT this is a very tough list to choose from. I am very impressed with Canelo right now, but this is at Middle not super middle. The top 2 are locked at Hagler and Jones, the third is tough. I could easily put Toney, Canelo OR GGG.

Definitely, the voting clearly shows Hagler and Jones jnr are the two guys everyone rates the highest.

I think Toney vs either GGG or Canelo is very interesting.

GGG, in particular, had such a reputation as this monster, and is so fearless and relentless, it would boxing heaven to see him face Toney.

One day, who knows, maybe some incredible complex algorithm will pile all this data into a simulation and let us have any match up we want.

    You don't know who wins?

    Or, just in general?
    :)

Hagler who lost to SRL, given a tough time by LW Duran and Autofermo?

Great fighter but h2h he ain’t touching Roy. He won’t even beat Golovkin or Canelo. Toney may be too slippery. He would stop Benn in a war and decision Lamotta.

I always feel like 15 rounds should still be the default.

I know why it was reduced, but you can always make an argument for less rounds.

Supposing we start seeing a resurgence of serious injuries, exhaustion, God forbid fatalities even, and other issues, with fighters late on in bouts, and people start demanding a maximum of 10 rounds?

    Then what?

    8 rounds?

I think 12 must be the threshold.

    Poll says Jr.

Also, I take it back. Hagler had a very good jab, iron chin and serious workrate. If he just comes at Canelo and GGG, I don’t see how they can stop him.

He does take wild swings for Canelo to counter though.

I might bet on Hagler vs Canelo and GGG. I think a prime Toney will be too slick. RJJ dominates.

Eubank Sr. is a tough one. Eubank had great boxing skills and COULD outbox Hagler, maybe, but Hagler could bulldoze him on the inside much worse than Benn did.

Also, this poll left out one of the actual greats of MW and matches up well against anyone not RJJ, Bhop.

Great thread. I love the enthusiasm.

Hagler takes it for me. He could do everything in the ring and as athletic as Jones Jr was, I reckon Hagler mauls him.

I know, I did put snr but it auto corrected to jnr and I couldn't go back in and edit it.

It'll teach me to proof read before hitting post.

Agree about Bernard, but I wanted to keep it to my personal 8 favourites and he just missed the cut.

I had a feeling Hagler was going to be up there, and I put him in precisely because of how much I liked him - though, in the end, I voted for Toney as I felt if he was at his very best he might just have enough to beat anyone.

That said, I'm slightly surprised Marvin won the poll so convincely.

It shows just how respected he was and how exciting he could be in the ring.
