Who wins Prime Calzaghe or prime Conteh

I'm a big Conteh fan but I think people underestimate the speed and cleverness of a prime Calzaghe. Conteh was incredibly strong mind but I think Calzaghe would prove more elusive than you think.

First of all, Contehs jab. Too efficient, varied, and consitent.

Calzaghe-An effective rhythm breaker with his unorthodox style. But Conteh could beat southpaws (Finnegan) and Calzaghe doesn't really have the power to dissuade Conteh.

Conteh is the more eye catching puncher, naturally bigger (once a proposed challenger to ALI AT HEAVY in the 70's) and tough to boot.

Calzaghe would keep Conteh thinking in the early rounds, but Conteh was just as good a strategic shifter. Conteh is just better, aesthetically, and in the performances he put on against the opponents he ebat (one-handed victories over Ahumada and Lopez trump any of Calzaghes hand problems)

Even if we're hypothetically assuming a 168lb Joe with good hands moves up, Conteh was just classier :good

 

I was rushing because I'm at work (and busy) but there has been a 5 page topic on this forum before....and I gave a more in-depth analysis then IIRC :good

 

Wasn't it Ali who persuaded Conteh to campaign at light-heavy because he felt Conteh was too small to be a heavyweight?

 

It ain't a Calzaghe 'hate' thing. With Conteh, it's one of the few match-ups STYLISTICALLY I would not like for Joe.

One could argue that a prime Calzaghe had power.

I think Joe's footwook and movement would make it difficult for Conteh to establish the Jab. I think Joe's workrate would allow him to score plenty with his fast shots while his footwork would open up Conteh to the counter.

It really would have been a great fight as you've got two of the most adaptable fighters there have been squaring off.

I think if you except a Joe with good hands then you have to except that he would have power.

 

I know I was joking. Conteh was a great fighter to it is an intruiging match up. Certainly think it would have been close either way.
