I personally favor Gomez in this one, I think he's the best CW post-Holyfield, with Jirov being 2nd behind him. I think he deals with Jirov's very effective pressure and style quite well, takes away the dangerous body punch and makes Vasili resepect his power, which is up there with Jirov's. Also with a longer reach, and slightly better handspeed, I see him getting a hard fought UD. Jirov was a beast, but JCG has his number IMO.

I don't think Gomez Chin would hold up.

You base this on which prime cruiserweight fight of Gomez, if I may ask?

The problem is Gomez fought no one of any note when he was at 190 and reigned in a division that was sooo sparce that it was seen as a wasteland at the time.

Gomez would have beaten him. Gomez was a very good puncher may be even more so that Jirov. Jirov though wasn't hard to find in the ring and could be countered all night with ease. A Gomez stoppage prime for prime wouldn't surprise me.

Wow. Jirov's stock on this site sure has fallen.

I think Jirov would have been too rugged for Gomez at cruiserweight.

I would favour Gomez he looked excellent at this weight although he didn't fight great competition.

Maybe Jirov gets a bit underrated here, really, for me this is a pick'em fight.

Make no mistake, JC Gomez had/has excellent boxing skills, and he's got a good chin too. And let's suppose he was 100% focused for that fight, something which stood in his way in his recent career. It's still questionable he could've handled Jirovs relentless pressure for a full twelve rounds, maybe Jirov would've just been too much and edge out a decision. It's not like JC Gomez is a counterpuncher like Toney, Jirovs come forward style does not play into his hands. I think the fight would've gone the distance, with Gomez landing nice jabs, right hands and uppercuts, but with Jirov turning it into a war, being in the trenches all night long and landing his share of punishement, and some good bodywork too.

I really don't know. I voted Jirov because so few others did.

Jirov would work the body of Gomez and set him up for a late round KO.
Gomez will dominate the beginning with speed and movement and then get stationary from the body blows. Jirov by KO

gomez would have won it in my opinion. Longer reach, power equal to if not better then Jirovs and better hand and footspeed. Jirov is easy to find, and would have been getting hit with counters and lead shots from Gomez. Gomez late stoppage or UD. Would have been a good fight though.
