Hopkins schools GGG, the way he did to Tito and Pavlik. He's too experienced and knows too many tricks to the trade.
Of course Hopkins could not even beat Taylor in 2 tries so yeah may not as one sided as you think....
Come on, while I don't think Hopkins shuts him out either the Taylor fights have no revelvance. He was 40 years old and up against a completely different style of fighter with Taylor compared to GGG. And Hopkins went on to shut out and beat down the man who beat Taylor as well. Hopkins would win a clear decision. He'd have some rough moments but he's far too skilled a boxer and far too adept on the inside as well to lose to Golovkin. Brook had a field day landing almost at will, Hopkins who is far more skilled than Brook would have even more success. Hopkins has shown he can more than handle the power of GGG having faced many huge punchers like Tito, RJJ, Tarver, Kovalev etc and not been stopped and I can't see Golovkin winning a decision, he's far too hittable to win enough rounds. Hopkins ties him up, spins him around, breaks his rhythm and counters hims to the final bell and comfortably wins.
Taylor is a completely different fighter than GGG. Styles make fights. The Taylor that fought Hopkins is a level above GGGs best wins even after the career implosion. Anyway the Taylor that Pat Burns trained was a damn fine fighter. After the 2 Hopkins fights Pat Burns was fired because he didn't get along with Taylors surrogate Nelson despite being Taylors trainer since he turned pro. Taylor then hired Steward who many thought wasn't a good fit and Taylor started slacking off in training and deteriorating as a fighter. He was then knocked out by Pavlik. Afterwards he fired Steward and was supposed to hire Patty back but Nelson convinced him otherwise and became his trainer. Taylors career fell apart without Pat Burns.
Great post. The Taylor that beat Hopkins was also on another level compared to GGGs resume. Read my above post it gives insight to the difference between The Taylor of the Hopkins fights and the Taylor afterwards.
Hopkins tied him up when upclose and bullrushed him with lead right hand + head when GGG tries to corner him. Rinse and repeat for 12 rounds and you got Hopkins UD.
