Canelo hits harder than anyone Williams has ever fought except for Martinez and we all saw how that turned out. I don't think Paul's lack of defense would work against Canelo. Paul also gave up his height and that would allow Canelo to land some brutal combos. I don't think Paul makes it the distance.

Close fight but canelos punching power should get the job done

I hate to break it to people but Canelo doesn't have near the punching power of Sergio Martinez, Canelo ain't stopping a prime Punisher.

Canelo dismantles Williams in a mid round TKO. Too much exposure with all that off balance volume punching for a precise boxer puncher like Canelo to capitalize

I think prime Paul Williams was a welterweight, but I'd favor the version of him from the first Martinez fight over Canelo of today.

I'm inclined to say PTP as a fan of his, but I think what likely would happen is a close fight that goes to the cards in which Canelo would almost certainly get the nod.

I got PW all day in this one.

Too much activity and length. IMO he'd overwhelm Canelo who I don't think has the one shot power to do what Sergio did which would be his only chance.

Williams would have torn Catchweight up. The volume-punching style would overwhelm Catchweight and Wiliams had good power too so it wouldn't be like Catchweight would be walking through pitty-pat punches. Williams would've looked like a giant next to Catchweight.

Did Oscar run Williams off the road because he knew Canelo was going to get schooled1

Looks at who he threw 100 punches a round against. All he had going was a high work rate never consistent with the weak opposition he faced in his very brief visit atop the JMW division. .

Too many people get carried away, he was truly an average at best fighter that negated his reach on every fight. He never had to deal with anyone on canelos level.

All this bs about canelos stamina "problems" PW would tire out more than I've ever seen canelo, canelo never got sloppy and falling all over himself tired like PW.

Most remember what they want to, not what was truly the case. When had PW ever beaten anyone remotely close to canelos level

The fighters that are so over rated on here compared with the understanding rated. You guys have most backwards for crying out loud

Yeah real weak opposition like Margarito, Martinez and Winky Wright.:patsch

All three better than Canelo. Even though he lost the Martinez match IMO, but Canelo would lose to prime Martinez as well.

I'd favor Canelo from the Cotto fight over Williams from Martinez I personally, Williams to an extent was overrated or maybe he never had a chance to show it but being ducked is the biggest cop out ever after a while.

Look at guys like Khan who claims Brook is ducking him when Khans really been running for years, Martinez was ducked to at WW at the same time Paul was there only he moved up and became a dominant undisputed MW Champ. Williams best wins were flat out robberies. Say what you will about Canelo's close fights but takeaway they were actually close.

I know styles make fights but take a look at Williams-Lara & Canelo-Lara, Canelo is the better boxer with very competent defense to pull off a competitive decision.

At the end of the fight a brawl breaks out between the judges who to rob...

But seriously, I got PeeWee at either 154 or 155.

Williams only ever lost to skilled, slippery southpaws Quintana, Sergio, and Lara (official result notwithstanding).

    Canelo doesn't fir this criteria.

He would have gotten outworked very convingingly by Williams, who then be robbed by corrupt GB judges.
