They had a rematch in case you forgot.

Benn also didn't look too intent on getting up against Watson after being downed with a jab.

How is retiring on your stool when you're completely shot and taking a dangerous beating, comparable to stopping in the middle of a round with not a scrath on you, simply because you are being outclassed

Duran took some poundings when 'shot' but never quit on his stool....
Horrible thing isolating extreme specific incidents to imply a generality innit?

Duran wasnt himself for that fight. This is not my opinion based on nothing but emotion but on Randy Gordon's no mas article which renders the vidodic show as irrelevent.

The point is, he quit. This doesn't make him a quitter nor a coward, which to you Duran seems to be despite having numerous all-out wars and only quitting once in his career in a fight he was not having the better of.

Duran was shot to bits at 47 and taking a brutal beating by Jorge Castro in some of the rounds yet he fought on and actually won the fight. It'd be a stretch to call him a "quitter".

The "Duran-Lawlor" fight of '91 was sickening to me. Duran was grossly outta shape and rumored to have a hurt shoulder going into the fight. To my knowledge, Duran received a lousy $100,000 G's for that farce...... It was Duran's worst showing of all-time, except for his TKO loss to Joppy yrs later in 1998....

In reality, Duran only ever looked seriously hurt in two fights that I saw of his..... Them being against "Hearns and Joppy."

I heard some rumors that Duran had people place a bet on the underdog Lawlor and Duran tanked it so he could get more money to pay off his debts. Don't know if there's any truth to that of course.

Lawlor's a cool guy though. They would have boxing dinners in the Bay Area for local fighters and they'd always make jokes about Lawlor being a drunk. The MC goes "where's Pat Lawlor, is he still standing?" He'd take everything in stride.

Duran showed up looking soft and bloated at 168 pounds at age 39 for Pat Lawlor on the undercard of "Tyson-Ruddock 1" in Vegas... Duran supposedly had been training and had already lost 30 pounds prior to the opening bell with Lawlor... STILL! Duran claimed he threw-out his left shoulder and couldn't pop a jab for **** after the 2nd round...

I can't even sit through my tape for review it sucked so bad...:dead:shock:

Amazing how styles make fights, etc.......

90% of the ESB posters feel '78 Duran at 140 would beat the **** outta 1982 Pryor in a time machine, but when you pit 1989 Chavez with 1982 Pryor, things get kinda' hazy and uncertain...

I think Aaron Pryor is VASTLY overrated.......
