Personally I think DeGale stops him this time. He could hit Groves at will and hurt him numerous time and busted him to pieces. Groves relied on the crowd the same was Pascal did with Dawson. DeGale is ten times the fighter George is. Who wins with good judges? Where they can score effective aggressiveness? And score the clean shots? POLL
who cares? won't happen for a few years yet and your boy could be in the nut house for depression by that time. Groves was right, he will go to bed at night thinking of him, wonder what he will be seeing tonight!
I thought DeGale won tonight by 3 pts or so. A rematch if he starts faster he would at worst win by decision with a good chance of stopping him as its clear he could hurt him.
It was a close fight but I picked Groves for the win in this one and I would pick him again in a return.De gale would have to take risks in a rematch and that would suit Groves I think. It was so tight a fight that a rematch is a cert.I dont think either will move on to the next level before a return fight.
If DeGale is 10 times the fighter Groves is, then why did Groves out-land him during the fight? Why didn't DeGale find solutions to problems that were evident in the early rounds? As for the actual question you pose, it's an interesting one. There's a part of me that thinks Groves just has DeGale's number, then there's a part that can see DeGale going away, improving and winning comfortably in the rematch. My money right now for a rematch would be on DeGale, I think he has a higher ceiling to his talent, if that makes sense.
As soon as original post read '10x the fighter'- that was the end of thread! as anything remotely serious.
WTF is this drivvell !!!! :huh It was a close evenly contested fight , IMHO it could of went either way , on the evidence of that fight if im leaning toward anyone getting a stopage it would be Groves . People questioning were all the De Gale hype (like myself) was coming from in the build up to this fight were proven right , one dominating victory over Paul Smith and he's the next Mayweather , people even saying he'd dominate Andre Ward nono , De Gale is / was over hyped , and thats now a fact !!!!
Deep down, everyone knows the answer is Degale and that's the way the betting would go. Stiill, it's nice to see the big head, head's shrunk for a while.
Please explain this to me. DeGale didn't look bothered by one shot during the entire contest. Explain this, please.
If there is going to be a rematch I see it happening a few years down the road when they're both world champs!(hopefully) Personally I see Degale taking the rematch. When he turned it up a gear he seemed to have a little edge with speed and power. He could of forced a victory against Groves if he up'd his workout but i don't think he could win convincingly. On the other hand, Groves could repeat this performance. He clearly frustrated Degale and made him look clumsy last night!
i think both fighters look to have reasonably solid chins which is good. i also think a draw would have been the right result. i could see it go either way tbh, so a draw makes the most sense. i also think that degale, and gavin need to go to the states and do a few years out there with us trainers/sparring.
i learned one thing last night...groves has a bigger heart and guts than degale... although degale is very very talented he didnt have the same heart to go for it like he should have...he was lazy at times. not taking away from groves..he proved a lot of people wrong..including me..
At what point did Groves "go for it"? Surely not in rounds 11 and 12? I learned two things last night. DeGale isn't quite as good as I thought he was, Groves is a little bit better than I thought he was.
Groves opened up a bit more in the later rounds as his legs tired. He hurt DeGale to the body, but the cuts and the tactics meant he needed to adjust. DeGale was loading up with everything he had and the only time he hurt Groves was when he headbutted him. DeGale hasn't improved at all, as I said from the beginning. Still indecisive, still uncultured, still lacking tactics. Anyone can look good against a slow, plodding fighter like Smith. But he looked clueless against a guy that wouldn't let him dictate. Stop making excuses. You scored the fight poorly, you picked poorly and just have to accept your boy got shown up last night.
