I think this will be a gut-check for Williams. He wasn't up for this fight in my opinion. He will come back faster and stronger and get past Martinez in the rematch. PW has a hard time with a slick southpaw but he's gotta get better, right?
Williams points or TKO...he wouldn't be so lost the next time. Martinez fought a helluva fight, and was able to confuse him and throw him out of sync...next time with more prep time I think Paul goes in.
It's hard to vote on this one. I wished the fight was declared a draw, and everyone could walk away almost happily. Paul Williams is still young, and can learn new skills. He is the busier and taller of the two. I expect Paul Williams to learn from his mistakes on a rematch. Martinez is a veteran, 46 or 47 fights in him, and older. He's got to improve on his physical conditioning. If Martinez had won the last two rounds more convincingly, he might have pulled out a winner or at least a draw. Better physical conditioning could also have improved Martinez's chance of knocking down Paul Williams in the last two rounds and given Martinez a few more points in the judges' scorecards. Martinez also has to work on his power. He's got descent power, but not enough to really breakdown Paul Williams even though Paul Williams also look tired at the end. Martinez should hire a nutritionist and a physical conditioning coach. Whatever it takes!
