    interesting fight.

it's what school of thought you come from.

do you think that lamotta can bull rush a defencive and rather passive winky. keeping him covered up while smothering winky's jab and move/block by cutting the ring down and mauling him. and then being able to use his own jab effectivly and left hook to get roudn the gaurd.

    or

do you think a southpaw jab and circle style with a high gaurd and more defencivly minded wright will box rings around the 5'8 middlewieght who is known to not make the wieght easily. and if brought right will have stamina probnlems later in he fight.

i think winky wins just due to his hieght, reach, athleticism and boxing abilty is far more probable to win against a fighter who is smaller, slower and more willing to take punches

LaMotta would bull Winky around all night - He would walk through anything Wright had to offer.

Wright isn't as fast of foot and relies on his pretty effective shell defence - But look at the Soliman fight - Now imagine if Sam Soliman hit 10 times harder and was made out of granite in the chin and body...

    Doesn't look good for Winky.

Winky does not have the power to bother LaMotta, LaMotta would be on him all night.

Picks him off with what? His awesome jab is indeed awesome - Against Sugar Shane Mosley.

Against LaMotta - It'd be like spraying bug spray at a locust swarm.

Ray Robinson had insane footwork that gave him room to work around LaMotta, Winky is a shell type of guy - Waits for you to finish or times his counters.

He's a good fighter, but LaMotta is a top 10-15 all time Middle...

Winky toughs it out to win on points. Can't miss with straight punches against Jake, he's coming in in a straight line, bulling to the body. That body attack would be no joke, but Jake would have to abandon his up and down attack to get anywhere because of the Winky guard, so enduring body punches would be Winky's only trouble - no joke, but Jake s not a banger.

    Clear UD.

yes but this isnt fighting this is boxing.

winky isnt a supremly fast fighter he is just very hard to hit cleanly with a great jab and can throw some very very quick combo's when he needs to.

and sam soliman isnt lamotta at all. soliman was a awkward taekwondo fighter with a looping right hand and a high workrate.
lamotta is known for bulling but not having more than an average workrate.

and lamotta wasnt a puncher as you would expect. he could punch but it was nothing to be put in a puncher list.
and your analogy of lamotta being made out of granite.
even as tough as he was. a masterpiece is created by chisling away at the rock not by breaking it.

winky has the tool (the jab) to chisle away to have a point lead.and a defence so that jake cant capitalise on his investments like body punching and playing possum.

but i can understand what your saying lamotta was a great middlewieght who could fight his way out of the gate of hell if needs be.

i personally feel that he would be to easier target.

One thing's for sure - with their good chins and feather-fists, there ain't gonna be a knockout.

I'd go with LaMotta - he's naturally bigger and more proven at the weight.
