1stly - I dont like Floyd Mayweather jr but he is good & I started thinking of fighters that started at 130 lbs just like Floyd that could have beat him... Whitaker, Duran, Pryor - not sure Aaron would even beat him - all started pro at 135 & everyone knows that DLH was way way too big for even 135 never mind 130.

The only name I could come up with that Id be willing to bet big on a peak v peak match with Floyd of all fighters that started at 130 & werent naturally bigger than him was Julio cesar Chavez.

    Cant think of any more.

    :thumbsup

Yeah, Chavez smokes him. Barrera might have a shot as well. Castillo did beat him but it wasnt official.

I'd back both Chavez and Arguello to beat him over 15 rounds at 130. Everyone knows Oscar was big at 130, like Arguello was too, but if you make the weight you make the weight, so he must be considered here. I think PBF beats Oscar at 130 anyway.

Duran would molest him at 135, and if PBF and Whitaker fought 100 times at 135, Sweet Pea would win 100 times. He's a terrible match-up for Floyd.

I know most will disagree, but I definitely fancy Mayweather to beat Mosley at 135, or any weight. I think Mayweather's movement and boxing brain would see him always beat SSM.

Id pick Duran over PBF at 135 all through to 147. Just gotta look at the Castillo fight and even the Hatton fight. I think Hatton managed 4 rounds before he got tired out, Duran would be alot more skilled and definitely wont be getting KO'd. Id pick Whitaker to outbox Floyd, Judah winning 4 rounds against a prime Floyd shows to me that a far superior boxer in Whitaker would take the fight quite easily. SRL at 147 would KO him.

At 140 alone, prime Chavez, Tszyu, & Phillips all had the smarts, durability, and firepower to test Floyd in ways he's never been tested in his career. But forget past legends, he's skipped enough tough challenges to question his career. There's no way I can give Floyd props as the top all time lightweight. He only ever fought one legit top 10 lightweight in Castillo. NDou and Sosa were only briefly ranked fighters. Floyd skipped Stevie Johnston for a reason just like Mosely. Also I think Lazcano would've gave Floyd hell at 135.

PBF was too good a boxer for Shane, and just a bad style match up for him.

    Duran, yes.

Margo can be outboxed and Floyd won't gas after 8, I'd take PBF, even now.

I think we can all agree, definitively that duran was the best at 130 ever. He would wear floyd down and likely stop him.

Henry armstrong maybe had a chance but thats a different era.

I think that him and Shane would be pretty evenly matched in terms of size at 135 and I would pick Shane to win.

The same Barrera that can't beat Pacman? Surely that's a joke.

Duran the best at 130 ever? No. 135, that's a different story.

Some of the guys being named are bigger than Mayweather, which defeats the purpose of the thread.

I'd make Mayweather the slight underdog against the likes of prime Duran, Chavez, Pryor, Whitaker, and Camacho.

I'd pick Mayweather over Arguello and Mosley, despite Mosley's size advantage. Mayweather is way smarter and a better boxer than Mosley, and he's not the consistent steady pressure fighter that Castillo was and gave Mayweather trouble. Mosley's style is different.

At 130, I think he may be the best H2H. Chavez was not quite at his peak then and was struggling with LaPorte and Lockridge, I would take the best of Floyd at 130 over the best of Chavez at 130, although it would still be close. At 135, It would be different.

As for Arguello, He would be down on the cards, and while a stoppage in his favor over 15 rounds is a possibility, I have never seen any indications that Floyd would get stopped in that fight.

Nelson would give a good fight, but he would lose as well.

However, Floyd was not at any size advantage at 135, and at the weight, both Duran and Whitaker certainly beat him. Chavez at his absolute best could have done it, former lightweights that went on to win titles above the weight, like Jose Napoles and Pryor would both do it. Several others as well.

Yes, no & never seen the fight.

Barrera`s rival Morales would have a better chance of upsetting FMJ as he has the height & reach & is the better long range boxer with the better chin - Floyd hit hard at the lower weights - but its still highly unlikely that Morales would be able to beat Floyd either.
Barrera can be outboxed & thats what Floyd does best.

Chavez from 1987-1992 would beat Floyd tho no matter which Floyd turned up.

The JCC from the Rosario fight might get the TKO, if not then clear UD.
