Well seeing the whole fight, Ali clearly won in my eyes, and came close to KO'ing Earnie in the last minute.
Obviously Ali, from ringside. I scored the fight for Shavers. The scoring was announced live on closed circuit. Angelo Dundee says he had a guy watching the closed circuit, and delivering the scores to ringside. He also claims that he was advising Ali of these scores. This is why - supposedly - Ali allowed Shavers to take late rounds - he knew he had won, why take risks against such a hard puncher?
I saw it awhile back, to me, Shavers won 8-6-1 over Ali, some of those shots he hit Ali with were fierce, though the famous second round one was a bit overrated.I can see why Larry Holmes said Shavers is the reason why Ali is the way he is now.
Anyone with an ounce of objectivity would see that Shavers won. He landed crushing bombs on Ali's head. Ali moved, flicked out useless jabs, and was given points for every single one of them, most of them blocked by Shavers.
I have scored it recently, and gave 8-7 to Ali. My card was pretty close to the judges' scores, except one of the early rounds. I had it even after 14 rounds. Last round Ali won and had Earnie badly hurt.
Yes, he quite possibly is biased towards Ali. The Ali myth is strong and certainly got into the psyche of many of his opponents.
So what will you claim next? That the so called Ali myth was so strong that EVERY fight of his that went the distance with him the victor, the judges " gave " to Ali due to said myth.:rofl
