It was a close fight between two evenly matched elite fighters. Based on my scoring I had Bivol up by two points (as did many others) but I readily concede there were many basically even/swing rounds and there is a very reasonable way to score it a draw or even a close win for Beterbiev. I thought the fairest way to score it was a draw or a close Bivol win. Scoring it for Beterbiev by several points is a BIG stretch. Just a short rant. Boxing is strictly scored round by round. Winning the first round is just as good as winning the last round. The fact that Beterbiev "closed the show" or "won the championship rounds" only matters in the context of over-all scoring. After the final tabulation of the scoring a fighter does not get extra points for "being aggressive" or winning the last two rounds. A lot has been made about Bivol being marked up. Same issue. Boxing is scored round by round. You don't get extra points after the fight is scored for marking up your opponent. In the Leonard-Duran III fight Leonard got two fairly bad cuts at the end of the fight. (from almost literally the only two punches Duran landed the whole fight. LOL). Duran lost big and didn't (and shouldn't) get any extra points. I think the complaint that Bivol ran during the fight is not based on reality. Yes there were times when he retreated to regroup, but most of the fight he was in the pocket. Bieterbiev is a monster puncher and Bivol deserves credit for going the distance and making the fight basically even. So what if he got some bruises and had to regroup several times!?
Berlangy is a dope and one of the most delusional fighters to ever lace them up Even a 40 y/o Beterbiev would decapitate him and send his head hurtling into the Stratosphere
The referee that gave Beterbiev the 8-4 score is the SAME referee that gave Bivol the 117-111 score against Zurdo. He obviously likes output and volume. No conspiracy. Different referees like different things. It's no different to how we all score fights differently on here. When I first watched it, I was disappointed that Beterbiev did not get the KO and I had it a draw. I rewatched it and scored it for a Beterbiev. I could rewatch it again and score it for Bivol depending on what I am looking for and what impresses me the more. A side note - Bivol visibly faded late on and Beterbiev did the cleaner and more eye catching work.
I scored it 115-114 for Bivol (with an even 10-10 round). But it was a very close fight and definitely not a robbery. The 115-113 scores for either fighter were okay. I do not agree with the 116-112 score, I thought it was a bit closer than that. I haven't re-watched it, I will do so over the next day or two.
Anyone rewatched it? How did they rescore it? What do we think happens in the rematch? I think (hope) Beterbiev starts off quicker and gets a KO. I can't see what Bivol can do different; he went through his entire arsenal and was still backpedaling for large parts of the fight (that's a natural flight response inbuilt into your psyche). I want to see Beterbiev wreak carnage in 2025 against CW champions and to see Turki put up the money for Usyk v Beterbiev
I rewatched it here's how I scored it Dimtri Bivol vs. Arthur Beterbiev Round 1 10-9 Bivol Round 2 10-9 Bivol Round 3 10-9 Bivol Round 4 10-9 Bivol (close) Round 5 10-9 Beterbiev (close) Round 6 10-9 Beterbiev Round 7 10-9 Bivol Round 8 10-9 Bivol Round 9 10-9 Bivol Round 10 10-9 Beterbiev Round 11 10-9 Beterbiev Round 12 10-9 Beterbiev 115-113 Bivol Close fight I can see it either for Bivol or a draw I really don't see how you can give Beterbiev more then 6 rounds.
