No, I'm saying that the fight was close enough to go either way, ODLH was the superstar, and I have the fight poster from that event staring me in my face right here in my home office because I happened to have ringside seats. ODLH and Hopkins are in BIG letters, the names Sturm and Allen can't even be seen. The name of the event was 'Collision Course'. A blind, deaf, ******ed ****** would know that either Sturm or Allen would need a decisive victory to take home a decision. Had Sturm worked hard, gotten that decisive victory and then been robbed you would have a point in this conversation. He didn't, and you don't.
even Oscar knew he lost that. at least he just got beat and didn't give it away like the Trinidad fight.
Initially I thought DLH edged it with his body attack vs Sturm's flickering jab. Recently watched it again and scored it a draw.
Sturm needed to shine but did not. Instead ODLH came in dull. The worst shape I have ever seen DLH in a fight, and imo DLH still managed to win 6 rounds.
Actually he is 1-1-0 with one fight being a controversial win in a close fight and the other losing to a former Light Heavyweight.
To answer your question in red bold, yes. Sadly throughout the history of the sport, in a close fight suchas this one, the contender needs to take the belt frmo the champ in very impression fashion, usually requiring clear dominance or a KO. I don't like it, but it's like that. Pacquiao got the benefit of the doubt vs Marquez, Mayweather vs Castillo, and many other countless examples... This fight needs to take into consideration that ODLH was little compared to Sturm, so naturally the punches were not going to have the same effect his punches did at Super Welter or below. However, they had enough sting to make the much bigger, stronger, younger Sturm shell up and flick his jabs from a turtle defense. Pretty lame way to shine at the stage for Sturm, especially considering it was his first fight at that stage. If you're going to be fair you have to give Sturm credit for the jab that seemed to be radared to DLH's forehead, and you have to give Oscar credit for his body attack, combinations that caused Felix Sturm to ball up and throw mostly jabs. It was an uneventful fight, but to insinuate that Sturm dominated is re-writing history. The truth is the fight was close, even the rounds were close. This fight can go 8-4, 7-5 for Sturm, and an argument can possibly be made for 7-5 Oscar. I scored it a draw the last time I watched it, but I cannot arue if someone thought Felix Sturm won or even if DLH edged it.
