Gradovich, no doubt about it. - harder shots - constant pressure - better body language - less facial damage
I had velez winning by 7-5. could have even been 8-4. gradovich is a pressure fighter but he missed a lotta punches and velez landed far more to the body and even his headshots were being overlooked. velez seemed to hurt gradovich to the body too...and gradovich seemed to be ineffective and even a little bit worn down in the late rounds even though velez looked winded too. the hbo team made too much of gradovich's work. he was actually losing a lot of the rounds they were giving him credit for because he was losing the battle in the inside and getting nailed with flush shots from the outside even as velez was getting tired and gradovich activity level was rising...but more activity doesn't equal more success....because of the commentary, i figured hbo is grooming gradovich as a future hbo star. so, i was pleasantly surprised it was scored a draw. i can live with a draw...even though, to me velez did enough to win.
I'm not mad at a draw. Velez fought his heart out. If they fought again, Gradovich would probably stop him. If Gradovich went to the body more, Gradovich would have stopped him. Velez just has no power, but he showed a hell of a lot of heart, landed some good body shots, and I think landed more shots than the HBO team gave him credit for. Maybe, I need to watch the fight again. Neither of those guys are elite or have potential to be. Velez has better skills, but his complete and total lack of power will not see him far in this sport. Every fight he's in is going to be life or death. We already know Gradovich, he's a come forward guy that has a great chin and he's going to be there all night. Walters would kill Gradovich. Lomachenko would box circles around Gradovich and probably KO Velez, as Lomachencko wouldn't neglect the body. Gonzalez probably knocks them both out. For that matter, Walter's probably does too.
i enjoyed the fight...very interesting twelve rounds. i notice that what happens a lot is the announcers get into a group think...i scored the fight a lot different from weisfeld did...i had the first four rounds for velez...then seven, nine, ten and possibly eleven for him too.
I had it 8-4 Gradovich. Thought velez did better than commentary gave credit for tho. Gradovich had the vigor. Velez looked like he lost the gusto after 5.
