Watched it Live as kid on Closed Circuit and Ray won 7 rounds and I score the fight the same EVERY TIME. It's a VERY EASY fight to score. The Definition of "Ring Generalship"
i like ray, but he was running like a ***** on this fight. in a close round, the boxer pushing for the fight gets it.
No sir, Ray Leonard delivered, did his thing while Hagler couldn't.... It's why two judges gave him the nod.
This fight is often widly distorted by fans of both guys. neither guy was ithier prime, although both were still top notch. The majority going into the fight though that Hagler would destroy him....myself included. SRL was more active, and his mobility caused Hagler a number of problems. Hagler is noticably slower (although SRL does deerve some credit for exploiting that)...especially his hook which looks almost cumbersome. Hagler does come on...but is it enough to swing it back his way. Either way you will have 50% of boxing fans agree with you/ For me I had Hagler by a point but it is no robbery whichever way you score it....unless you score it wide one way or the other. To me Hagler won, but he allowed SRL to control the tempo and wasn active enough untill to late...so he has no one to blame but himself.
He's my IDOL and I agree. Hagler will have to live with letting Ray control the first 4 Rounds gaining control by "running".
I still don't see how Hagler could have won it. I'll watch it again when I get the chance. I've been planning to do it in a close fight, the fighter landing more clean and effective punches gets the round atsch
No matter who you say won, it is a fight that says more about the greatness of Leonard than of Hagler, although Hagler was also past his prime.
Big fan of both guys but I think Hagler won the fight. Only watched the fight about 3-4 times but everytime I had Hagler winning by at least a point.
