I guess this performance of Taylor against a domestic challenger might be effected due to his long lay-off (9 months) and inactivity, as he had onyl one bout last year and maybe two in 2020. He alsk might have underestimated Catrall (but I have never watched a fight of either competitor). Zepada, Pogaris and Ramirez would have likely stopped him if any of them stand in the ring last weekend.
It looks to me like moving to Ben Davison hasn’t worked out too well Josh. He was far better than this under Shame McGuigan. He actually looked really nervous too. Another thing that was different from previous performances was his lack of adjustments in the ring. Why did it take him a full 6 rounds into a championship fight to start making an adjustment to his opponent? A basic crouch down shoulder first defence had him in fits for 5 rounds. He was making adjustments on the fly during rounds in previous fights. It was a terrible performance and not just down to a weight drain. He needs to consider changing trainer back and going back to Shane.
Watching live I scored it to Catterall but I am going to watch it again I don't have a problem with the decision and could see an argument either way Catterall didn't push the fight and really go for it imo I didn't see Catterall having his big opportunity and trying to really take the title from the champ. I thought Catterall seemed worried about being hit (yes I know the art is to hit and not get hit) I don't think Taylor was struggling anymore with the weight than usual either and think Taylor was concerned about the decision not going his way at the end It was one of those fights where one had it all to win and the other all to lose I have seen how so many say immediate rematch but don't think that would be a good move for Jack. I have often felt that when someone loses a controversial decision they don't tend to perform as well in an immediate return. I think this is why Fury has gaps between fights to be right mentally Watching live I scored for Catterall but will watch again as I think there is an argument either way
This weeks Boxing News the bible of british boxing calls the decision for Taylor a disgrace.Couldn`t agree more
Trying to be respectful here, but can you post your card? Oftetimes people make these blanket statements: "he didn't go for it" "he landed the better punches" "he controlled the pace" etc. But that doesn't matter because boxing is scored RBR. I have a very difficult time seeing how Taylor won 7 rounds: - Rounds 7, 9, 10 are the only rounds I thought Taylor won - Rounds 1, 4, 5, 6, 8 (10-8) were clearly Catterall rounds You have to give Taylor rounds 2, 3, 11, and 12 for him to win. To me, that is blatant fanboyism. I felt Taylor won round 7 just as clearly as Catterall won round 3, so why not give round 7 to Catterall? Round 3 seemed like a pretty clear Catterall round. And don't even get me started on the judge that gave round 4 to Taylor. To me, it's simple. In boxing you can essentially score any round how you want, provided the round is not a domination. If there is any sliver of hope, then people will find a way to give it to a certain fighter. Hell one of the judges in GGG/Canelo gave round 7 (I may be mistaken) to Canelo when I thought it was Golovkin's clearest round of the fight!
I think every world champion should do at least 4 contests per year and these which are below that level ought to have 6 or more competitions. In most kinds of sports have the athletes more than 40 in a season, which means they perform narrowly every week (some times 2 to 3 times; if an English week). He was probably rusty, but was already since about 2018 way too inactive (so years previous to the pandemie). It seems that professional boxing is for lazy people, although American Football appears an even more lazy sport, as there are the interruptions longer than the time they play and usual is one run less than 10 seconds, there is a break after every physical contact (especially compared to rugby, which seems to be harder/ tougher).
So that is like Mavrovic before Lewis, although who kept more active and just played his games to make him wait (was attempting the same with Klitschko, when he choose Johnson after Tyson).
I haven't rewatched it yet I think as I recall when watching live gave Taylor rounds 2, 5, 7, 10 I think. Obviously there were points deducted and a kd, which looks clear for Catterall, but when I was rewatching (only looked back up to round 4) felt round 4 could easily have gone either way as Catterall I felt only really landed a few jabs and Taylor pressured without landing many clean shots I find sometimes ring generalship scores close rounds and upon reflection aren't quite what it looks
I never watched this live, just the re-play. Even as a Taylor fan I couldn't make him the winner here. Not in any shape or form. Feel for Catterall in all of this.
Having watched it again I still see it similar to when watching live I scored rounds 2, 5, 7, 9, 10 to Taylor but rounds 11 & 12 I felt could go either way I think Catterall boxed the better and looked the more composed but. He looked like he landed the cleaner shots but as said previously, I don't think Catterall really went to rip the titles away (that doesn't mean I didn't score him as the winner but is where I can see some debate) I scored R1 Catterall R2 Taylor R3 Catterall R4 Catterall R5 Taylor R6 Catterall R7 Taylor R8 Catterall. (10 - 8 round for Catterall) R9 Taylor R10 Taylor. (-1 for Catterall) R11 could argue either way (-1 for Taylor) R12. could argue either way I wouldn't see a problem with anyone scoring rounds 11 & 12 either way. I did score those rounds to Catterall but think they were debatable. If someone scored the first 10 rounds the same as I did and 11 & 12 to Taylor, they would have it as a draw
I'm not sure the result was a robbery. I think the fight could have gone either way. There was more than one round that had very little in terms of effective striking. Depending on your point of view, those rounds could have gone either way and no surprise they went to the home fighter. If the fight was in North England. I would fully expect Catterall to get the decision.
