In the Nunn vs. Taylor thread over in the classic forum, some people were saying that Spinks won the fight against Taylor. Who did you have winning?

Taylor 115-113 but only because he was the champ - all very close rounds gave to him. My scorecard:
    1. Taylor 10-9
    2. Spinks 10-9
    3. Taylor 10-9
    4. Spinks 10-9
    5. Taylor 10-9
    6. Taylor 10-9
    7. Taylor 10-9
    8. Spinks 10-9
    9. Taylor 10-9
    10. Spinks 10-9
    11. Spinks 10-9
    12. Taylor 10-9

This is fair, but what if rounds were given on what landed (not how hard, cause Spinks can't break an egg), and not given to one fighter just because he's champ?? I thought it was atleast a Draw. That's why Steward was about to have a friggin stroke in the corner, he knew Spinks was way too close to winning it. It was like CS was JT's best friend or brother and JT didn't want to hurt him, he just would not throw.

Taylor won the bout, barely, but lost his image as one of the top fighters in the sport in the process. I guess you could say although Taylor won, he really lost.

I thought Spinks made him look extremely bad, and that is being nice on my part. If Taylor had any boxing skills he would have murdered Spinks. After that fight, I knew Taylor would lose to Kelly Pavlik, no question. The Ouma fight was another fight that made Taylor look really bad as well. Both of those fights, Ouma and Spinks, exposed Taylor as extremely over-rated and a HBO media creation.

Taylor may be big and strong, but the man has a serious mental block when it comes to ring strategy. I have never been sold on Taylor as a great middleweight and felt he never really earned the title from Hopkins. He has always received favoritism from judges on the scorecards and is lucky Winky Wright decided to take a couple rounds off. Basically, Taylor did squat during his championship reign except barely defeating a 40+ year old fighter to win a belt, barely beating a couple of blown up 147 pounders by decision, and fight to a draw with a fighter who had a limited offensive arsenal. Taylor didn't look good for a single fight in his entire championship career... not one time.

Taylor isn't even a blip on the radar in terms of the history of boxing is concerned. Taylor will be quickly forgotten when he's finished and I don't think he'll ever win a meaningful championship bout again. Maybe he'll pick off some lesser belts but he'll never be "the man" of a division ever again. Moving up in weight is only going to make it more clear that Taylor's boxing ability has been greatly exaggerated.

I agree with everything except the Wright comment. I have watched that fight a few times closely and i have it a draw everytime. And the reason why Wright took a few rounds off is because he felt Taylor's power. People say he rested in the 12th but if you look at rounds 10 and 11, you could see Taylor throwing a bunch of hard shots that i'm sure Wright felt. They might not have landed flush but he felt them.
It was an extremely close fight and i think a draw was the right decision.

I agree. Give the man some credit. He fought 2 very close decisions with hopkins (an old hopkins but a dam good one and reigning champ) Then he fights another close one with winky. All fights could have gone either way. You have a right to hate taylor but he is not a bum or a hype job.

Yeah, you can't just discredit JT. I think people are hard on him because they realize that he has the talent to be better. But it was his activity that kept Hopkins at bay. You have to fault Hopkins for not being busy enough.

And he almost beat Pavlik. He's got the talent to go toe to toe with the game's best at MW and SMW. He just isn't the best.

I had Taylor winning the fight 115-113. I thought it was a clear cut victory.

Spinks boxed circles around Taylor. I did not feel that the punchstats or the judges accurately reflected what happened in that fight.

I don't know who won, but anyone who watched the fight definetly lost. I couldn't score something that I couldn't get through watching. So boring.

    Nobody won in that abortion.

Taylor just lost less than Spinks, both lost alot less than anybody who had to watch that horrible ****.
