Who won the fight, Navarrete or Valdez?

Very true.

 

Oh, he's talented for sure. You don't get to be a champion and defeat some of the fighters he's fought by luck. But my goodness, his balance and footwork are horrible. When I saw him cross his feet a few times I was like, "Geez," and laughed. Valdez almost took advantage of it but couldn't. A fighter like Lomachenko, or MAYBE Shakur Stevenson, might be able to do a lot better and beat him.

Good luck to Navarrete. He's a fun fighter to watch and hopefully his awkwardness will continue to baffle other top fighters.

 

IMO, there is no need for a rematch. Valdez was soundly beaten. He's lucky Navarette hurt his hand. If not, I believe Navarette would have knocked him out. This fight took a lot out of him, and I hope that eye isn't permanently damaged.

 

valdez needs to find his jab and not come straight forward. he's a talented kid. he can be much more.
all the hits navarette took, his face looked clean, kid can take a punch.

 

I didn't score it with extreme focus, but i had it 9-3 or 10-2 for Navarrete.

 

Two close rounds to Valdez. Can't see how one judge gave him four. I question the punch stats as well. Navarrete outlanded Valdez something silly.

 

I had it 7-5 Navarrete, possibly 6-6 depending on how you scored the 12th, but if I were advising Valdez I'd stay far, far away from the rematch, especially in light of Navarrete hurting his hand during the fight, something you can't always count on.

The problem is that the rounds I felt Oscar won were competitive rounds I could see going to Navarrete (which would account for some of the wide scoring I've seen). The rounds Navarrete won, however (other than the 12th), he won emphatically. Then you add the fact that Oscar was visually an absolute mess after the fight and Navaratte looked like he was ready to hit up the local strip club.

Oscar has the tools that I think would trouble Navarrete, but he rarely uses them, and instead wants to get into an in-fight war where he relies on counter hooks. That's not a good strategy against superior boxers like Shakur, effective movers/jabbers like Conceição, and bigger, longer, better brawlers like Navarrete. Just a nonstop trifecta of three completely different styles that utterly befuddle him.
