(Salido 115-113) Salido gets a deserved win, but there are a lot of problems with that fight. He came in overweight, by a good amount. Walked in as a welterweight (Lomachenko's fault for not enforcing a weight limit on fight day once he missed weight) Lomachenko was destroyed by Salido's legal body shots...but then there were the large number of below the belt shots that were never called by the referee.
I had it 116-113 (7-4-1) to Salido with the 1st a 10-10. Loma unfortunately didn't do enough offensively until the 11th and 12th rounds. He had no weight or intent behind his punches, rarely threw combinations and walked in and clinched numerous times. Especially at the start, I felt he gave away the early rounds. It was hard to remember a clean, flush punch that Loma landed. He seemed pre-occupied with conserving his stamina to me. Salido landed the harder more damaging punches and while some were low, he did land many body shots.
I had Loma winning- he outlanded Salido in the majority of the fight, landed at a higher %, and landed the best shots of the fight. He was the one who had his opponent hurt. Salido threw punches and kept Lomachenko backing up, but his offense wasn't as effective or efficient. It only looks close on paper because Compubox counts every body shot as a power shot. Well, if a bigger fighter lands that many "power" body shots and he's the one wearing down at the end of the fight, Lomachenko must have iron guts. That said, he was fighting in Texas, not in my back yard. Loma's biggest problem is that he waited too long to open up and needed to be more aggressive to win the fight on the other guy's turf. I hold every visiting fighter to that standard, and although I'm a huge Lomachenko fan, I'm not going to give him a free pass there. He'll learn and be fine. But giving Salido too much respect in the middle rounds is what cost him the fight.
I had it for Loma 115-113. He landed the cleaner, more effective punches, and showed more skill and ring generalship. Very impressive for a guy with one professional fight. The judges should have respected him for his courage and coming in at the contracted weight limit. It's a wonder to me why fighters still agree to fight in Texas, one of the most crooked boxing states in the world.
Salido won. But based on the fight, with Salido's blatant fouling and the last 2 rounds, Loma was the better fighter. This was purely a case of luck of pro exxperience (yeah, no **** sherlock :! and a very shitty referee.
No option for a draw? I had it 115-113 Salido but can see a case for a draw. Can't see 7 rounds for Loma
I want the 15 round fights back. Salido Lomachenko and Stieglitz Abraham would've been so much better over 15 rounds.
The annoying thing was that lomachenko clearly doesn't have stamina problems as some were concerned about, had Loma come out in round 1 like he did the 11th it would have been a different fight.
Salido by 2 rounds and also Lomachenko should have been deducted 1 point with clinching 10 times a round.
Good fight, but dirty moments by BOTH. Salido hitting south of the border as much as Loma clinching and pushing down a lot like Khan did with Peterson. To be fair Loma could of come in as heavy as he wanted to be, but his style wouldn't benefit as much as Salidos.
