I think if Tarver wasn't drained, he was as good as the versions of Eubank and Kessler that Joe fought.

I think the majority here have voted correctly that Bernard Hopkins has won the rivalry.

Not only did he have a decent MW reign but he also beat up on all the dudes that KO'ed Jones into dream land.

BHOP has never been KO'ed and has faced basically the same level of opponents who knocked Jones silly.

This is probably due to BHOP being a great deal smarter than Jones and able to see through a plan. Inside and outside the ring BHOP is just superior to Jones in intellect.

You know that I don't agree with your opinion, but I think their legacy is a different debate to their rivalry.

They had 2 fights and won 1 each. But Roy's mattered the most and Bernard wouldn't fight Roy in 2002.

Bernard also admitted that his loss to Roy in 1993, had literally been on his mind since the day it had happened.

In my opinion, Roy won the rivalry.

Yeah, when I posted the thread I was thinking of legacy.

Even though Holmes beat Ali, It's sure IMHO that Ali's legacy exceeds Holmes's.

    No comparison there, dude.

Ali was shot and suffering from Parkinson's.

When Roy schooled Bernard, both were in their primes.

As I said earlier, although I think Jones was in his prime, I don't agree that Hopkins was yet in his prime. Hopkins started his boxing career much later than Jones as when they met, still very much learning his craft. In Hopkins case, age doesn't define, prime.

Still, H2H isn't the point. H2H they are even, 1:1.
Jones beat Hopkins prior to Hopkins being prime, and Hopkins avenged his loss against a past prime Jones. Even.

The point is Hopkins pulled out in front of Jones in legacy. His body of work, achievements, is greater than Jones, and he did it cleanly with no chemical aids.

I agree with you in that Bernard wasn't at his best in 93. Even though he was 28, he did become a better fighter in his 30's. But you have to note that Roy was only 24, and he had a fractured hand. Also, Bernard went unbeaten for 12 years after his defeat to Roy. So it was a significant win.

Bernard avenged his defeat in 2010, but it had no significance whatsoever. Roy hadn't had a top level win for over 6 years at that point, and Bernard had already dismissed him as a fighter 2 years earlier, saying that a fight wouldn't even be fair because Roy had lost all of his gifts etc. Then during the fight, he tried to get Roy disqualified on numerous occasions.

Although their 93 fight wasn't a huge fight, with both guys at their best, it was much more significant than their rematch.

Again, it also has to be noted that Bernard wouldn't fight Roy in 2002, when the fight at that stage would have been huge.

All things considered, I think Roy won their rivalry.

You're entitled to your opinion like everyone else, but I think it's complete madness for you to say that Bernard achieved more.

How on earth did he achieve more?

Roy won titles in 4 divisions, that included going up to HW, and he made history by dropping back from HW, to reclaim the LHW titles.

Bernard has had great longevity which is a huge achievment in itself, but he has not achieved more than Roy.

Head to head they are 1-1.

But Hopkins beat two of Jones many daddy's in Tarver and Johnson.

Hopkins was a clean athlete While Jones a steroid cheat.

Hopkins never embarrassed himself even in his late 40's he was beating champions and world ranked fighters while Jones has been going on a world tour since his 30's being knocked out left and right, the icing on the cake will be Jones getting koed by a fan.

This aint even close its Hopkins for a mile.

    I

Roy's wins over a prime Hopkins and a prime Toney trumps every single win on Hopkins resume ..Him capturing the HW title then Coming back down and re winning the undisputed lhw title is something Hopkins could never do ..Even in their advance age Jones still had Hopkins scared in ther rematch when Jones was shot to bits Hopkins resorted to his crying act trying to get out the fight so much for that intellect ! Roy will always be his daddy !

Cool. We agree on issues while disagreeing on others. That's only natural. Boxing is supposed to be a diverse sport for just this reason.
Fans are attracted to different fighters with different styles for varied reasons. This is one aspect that makes boxing the ultimate world sport.
We can say, Boxing is revealed in the eye of the beholder.

IMHO, Jones has almost always come into fights as the favourite while Hopkins has almost always been the underdog. I think this more than anything is what angered and motivated BHOP in their rivalry.

There are some true die hard Bernard Hopkins fans who have followed and bet on Hopkins throughout his career/ Being the underdog, the betting odds for Hopkins must have been very good to these fans as they collected their winning as BHOP fought, won and consistently beat the odds.
