A Prime Pea is SOO far ahead of a Prime Dela Hoya it ain't even funny.

Most believe a faded Pea won, or at least brought it to a point or two, most likely a draw.

A prime Pea is a whole other fighter, even if you match them at 140, where DLH was seen as somewhat of a beast.

Oscar started to fade not from natural stamina issue but because in the 6th he knocked down Quartey and tried to go for the knock out too early. He got knocked down himself because he walked right into it and it took him awhile to regain his earlier performance. In other words, he didn't run out of gas, he got hurt. He achieved another knockdown in twelfth and brutally beat on Quartey for the rest of the round. That's why he won. For the record, I consider the Whitaker fight a draw. There should have been a rematch.

Aggression and EFFECTIVE aggression are 2 different things. The latter is what actually counts when scoring a bout.

Whitaker made DLH look silly, throwing 10-punch combos at air.

It was a close fight, but in no way, shape of form did DLH do enough to take the belt from the champ. At worst this should've been a draw.

Granted, Whitaker didn't have a high volume of punches that night, but the ones he did throw were more effective. Exhibit A: DLH was knocked down and touched the canvas by a so-called "slapper."

I think the most telling thing about this fight was the day after on HBO (available on YouTube), when DLH PROMISED a rematch on live TV...only to go back on his word and run away with the belt.

Fear? Shrewd business skills? I dare any DLH fan to watch that postfight show on YouTube and explain the reason why he would call for a rematch and then disappear.

And to the other poster, prime Whitaker, which was at lightweight, would probably take an 8-4 decision over DLH, especially if they fought at 135. I think the real discussion is how each would fare against each other at 140, where both fighters treated jr. welter as no more as a short-term stepping stone to the big cash at 147. Oscar was very hard to beat at 140, with freakish power. He could easily turn a fight around with Whitaker by landing one solid left hook. Then again, if the fight at 147 was any indication, he would have trouble finding a prime Pea, much less the faded version he met that night.

Yeah, "stunk" in the sense that the decision was fishy at best.

I don't think Oscar could've hurt Whitaker if he landed that left.

I think that welterweight time period all pointed to one thing, Trinidad. Oscar was being rushed toward that fight. Even Quartey didn't get a rematch. I think this was more about Arum than Hoya.

The end result frustrated me so I didn't bother watching the fight for a second time. I thought Whitaker deserved the decision: more effective with the jab and pretty much outlanded DLH in every round.

oscar won that one. even though whitaker made him miss all night and knocked him down, he didn't do enough offensively. oscar flailed like at nothing but air like a maniac all night, but whitaker didn't do much in return. one guy throws 50 punches and lands 8, the other guy throws 10 and lands 5, the guy whose throwing more gets the nod. not only was he not active offensively, but he wasn't too efficient either.

I felt Oscar won the fight, the 12th round was the deciding factor for me, which I felt Oscar won.

oscar got the nod 7-5 you can even say 6-5-1 but not because of talent but becaue whityaker wanted to shoeshine and juck and jive during the fight.

there weren't many meanigful punches landed by whitaker during the fight and he damn sure didn't throw alot of power puinches.

I was disappointed with both fighters as the fight was really boring, floyd vs hoya was much more exciting

And yet Arum thought fighting a shot to **** Camacho, a shot to **** Chavez (again), a semi **** Rivera, and a off the wall **** Kamau and Carpentier was just the tonic?

These were Oscar's next five opponents by the way.

Horrible duckage by Oscar, which earnt him the nickname 'Chicken DLH' by Mike Katz. Oscar and Bob both wanted no part of Whitaker.

Mind you, if Whitaker didn't become a drug addict and fade off the seen, I'm sure DLH would have given him a rematch eventually once there was sufficient evidence that he was shot.
