It was a really close fight. Seems most of use had Gus narrowly winning, but thought i'd do a wee poll to find out the consensus
Really close fight. People get carried away when they are used to seeing an invincible fighter look human. 3-2 either way or even 2-1-2 are acceptable cards. If it's given that Jones looked out of his comfort zone, it must also be considered that generally he was the one forcing the fight, pressing Gus and looking to inflict damage. Gus fought incredibly well and his skills allow him to keep the fight one dimensional. Jones on the other hand must work on his takedowns (which are overrated). Once you are down he lays all over you and rocks your world but his takedown en route are very overrated. His striking also looked very poor as he was hell bent on trying employ a Wing Chun like stance and strikes.
I like that. In a fight that close, where both guys have left absolutely everything in the cage, they should use that score more often. Remember feeling physically sick for Shogun after he "lost" his hellacious war with Hendo. There really should be no loser when the fight's that close and brutal
Gus won 95% of the fight. The only reason anyone could possibly think that it wasn't complete domination was that lucky elbow
That lucky elbow was huge though. It swung a round. It's the sort of strike that can render 95% of Gus work useless. Damage should really dictate who wins but it is usally very opinion based as there isn't a perfect measure for it. However, when someone does get hurt like that it isn't an opinion and thus a very defining moment that makes it very hard for the receiver (Gus) to turn the round around enough to win it or even draw. In many cases, the receiver is merely trying to ensure they don't get stopped or suffer a 10-8 round.
And Jones said he wanted to face a Klitschko one day Gus gave this plodding joke a boxing lesson. Jones didn't win a single clear round, even rd 4 was not a clear round for him as Gus was dominating prior to getting caught with 1 shot.. in boxing when you control a rd and you get caught with a good shot and don't go down you usually still win the round.. The judges were horrible for this one. at worst it was 3-2 Gus, but a case could be made for 4-1 or 5-0 Gus. Awful decision.
Never really felt that from Jones, dont remember him being stunned A couple of points Gus looked close to being stopped. He did real well to survive in the 4th, and in the 5th there was a point he looked totally and utterly ****ed
I think they both were at one point. Jones looked more human than we are used to. Guz looked more super human than we are used to. When we look at how they have treated other top opponents at 205 then the good news is there isn't one king in the division but a genuine challenger to the throne also. A couple more Jones and Gustaffasons and 205 will be insane!
Machida was neither Shogun was past his best, but was still a beast and the manner in which he destroyed his opponents says a lot too
Jones walks through the LHW division to be the youngest ever champion but he is a fraud as his opponents are all cans. He then beats the record for title defences by winning a close war showing great heart, grit and fighting spirit and he is a fraud because he didn't walk through the guy. Conclusion: You're a dick.
Jones squeeked it out. But no issue with people seeing it the other way around. I think there is some bitterness and jealousy at hand. Joe Rogan was overly biased towards Gus that night. I think that is playing a factor, however I think most people would agree it was a pick-em fight and rematch would make everyone excited.
Agreed, Rogans commentary was way off. He was way too emotional and not stating facts. The truth is, you do not score anything for stuffing takedowns and Rogan was talking like that was winning Gus rounds. I have watched it a few times and Rogan stating that Jones needed the finish to get the win going into the fifth was just bad, bad commentary. Jones was the aggressor in every round and aggression/octagon control is a judging criteria. The striking was pretty even but Jones coming forward is what would have tipped it in a 10 point must system. I think it is ridiculous that a judge cannot score a round as a draw but that is where judging is at. So, in an otherwise even round, it had to go to Jones for being the one pressing the action. It was by no means a robbery and it was a great fight. I don't get the hate.
atsch Gus gave Jones a boxing lesson... Plodding Jones hardly did any damage aside from that one elbow, the fight could have easily been scored 4-1 Gus AT WORST it was 3-2 Gus.
