I think Hagler would be tougher for Robinson with the right fight plan. I think Hagler would be the tougher fight although I think of Monzon as the better middle.
I'm leaning towards Monzon here. The reason is that I think Robinson would do better against someone who could dominate him on the inside than against someone who could dominate him on the outside. Very close, though.
I think he beats both but both would be tough hard fights that would make him ache afterwards, his speed, technique and movement would see him win through.
I'd say Monzon. Most of us agree that Hagler could box very well, and if he stuck to just that side of his game he still would have been maybe a two time middleweight champion with a handful of defences. But against Robinson I'd expect him to, if not at first, eventually fall into brawler mode and chase the man in front of him. I think Robinson was a better puncher than boxer, although like Hagler, he could do that too - and he was quicker and more agile than Hagler. He'd probably find success on the outside. Against Monzon, who rarely rushed in, he'd find it harder to find an actual gameplan. Robinson would obviously find Monzon too strong and powerful to deal with using an offensive game, yet unlike against Hagler, if he boxed and moved, Monzon would chase him steadily, pumping away and roughing him up at close quarters. It would be a case of Robinson finding a simple fighter just too complicated to deal with. He'd be darting in and out like he typically did against larger fighters, it's just that Monzon would get the better of it. Both beat Robinson though - they were almost as good pound-for-pound, but naturally bigger.
Both would present severe challenges to SRR, but I think Monzon would actually beat him. Robinson had more trouble with taller guys, and stylewise, Monzon would be the very opposite of the type fighter that Ray feasted on. Hagler would, through his aggression, would present Ray with a more familiar scenario. I've always thought that Monzon would have beaten Robinson with his patient, cold and methodical style, and like I said, taller guys troubled Ray more, and Monzon made full use of his height and reach. I feel that Robinson would have had more success with Hagler, just as the latter day "Sugar" was SOMEWHAT successful (I thought their fight was a draw). As was said by Manassa, Robinson WAS p4p the best, but these two, Monzon and Hagler were the better middleweight champions, with Monzon IMO the greater of two. Monzon would have won 15 round decisions over both SRR and Hagler, again, IMO.
Halger IMO, more multi-faceted. I still think Monzon would beat Ray mind, he would find his rhythm easier than Robinson IMO!!!!!!
Monzon would be tougher but I feel the Ray that defeated LaMotta would decison him .. not the older Ray of Fullmer and Basilo ...
i think the opposite i think Monzons tougher for the same reasons as Manassa, also i have Hagler and Monzon joint first, i cant split them. :good exactly my thoughts
